After not being on the big pond since July 7, I’ll be back on Mille Lacs this Friday and Saturday for the 11th and 12th time this season.

Has anyone else been pulling deep diving cranks on the flats? I dabbled a bit with it a few weeks back but didn’t get nearly the response when compared to spinners or lindy rigs. If so, have you pulled them during the daylight hours or just in the evening?

hey Schnauzer, the end of June a few friends of mine were up on the flats pulling some cranks. I stayed further south as the wind was really blowing, so didn”t want to mess with bigger white caps. they said they had switched to cranks and they were getting tired of catching so many walleyes rigging. after about an hour they had said the had landed 10-12 fish on the cranks, am not usre which cranks they were using either. but sounded like the size had not increased much from what they were getting on the rigs. keep us posted. Jack.

I’m sure I’ll pull some cranks at some point. How much remains to be seen but I’ll report back how it goes.

FYI… we did pull some deep divers (reef runners and Yozuri) and did OK. It wasn’t any better than the three way spinner rigs we were using for most of the time so we ended up going back to the spinners.

All in all, it seems the faster presentations have now surpassed the rigging and bobbering (at least for us). We were pulling the spinners anywhere from 1-1.6 mph and the cranks at 2.2-2.3 mph (GPS).
