I will be heading to Brainerd July 7th for a week. My boat is not really well suited to the big pond, but if anyone is around during the week and needs a good net boy, let me know in private here or on FTR. I do have an aqua view that I will bring as well. Thanks

No replies so I hooked up with a local Brainerdite. We started the day casting for ‘skis, with only one 10lb northern to show. Went to the flats and started catching eyes with leeches and orange gami hooks. My partner was using long snell and reg hook and I was catching about 8 to his 1. We would run flat to flat and look for active fish, if you graphed them, you caught them. Around noon we started pulling bouncers and crawlers after the leech bite dried up. Had much success on these rigs. At one point we were pretty much out of crawlers and partner said one worm left. You rig it and I will put you on a big fish. After about 5 mins he said…..ok. theres on on the bottom…..bang, up came a 26″ eye, our largest and last of the day. Two shorts, one slot and about 35 17-25″ fish.
The heat, no wind and bugs were a pain. Small midges or gnats, larger small flies, blue bottle flies (eating on all the dead fish floating) and sweat bees. Did see about a 30″ eye belly up, many tullibee, one perch and dozens of walleye. Cammed walleye off the sand on east side, but most were out on mud.
Have fun, and catch a fish.

It’s nice to hear you got a chance to get out there and even better to hear you had a good outing.

The hook color you used is an interesting tidbit. I have been using mostly red hooks all year. I caught a lot of fish with hooks in their mouths on my last trip and I saw lots of different colors – purple, chartruse, black, yellow, etc.
