North Side?

I’m headed up on Thursday. Fished the north side sand a few weeks ago and did fairly well drifting Lindy Rigs. (smallest 20″/ largest 25-1/2″) but no slots and no-where near the action that I’ve been reading about on the site. Any suggestions on presentation to attract more fish? I hear of guys trolling with cranks or 3 way-ing @ 3+mph and having decent action. Is this the answer to get a few in the slot?

    “A few in the slot”

If you have 2 people in the boat and put 50 fish in the boat over two days of fishing, you may get 2-3 slots.

If you are not putting a fish in the boat every 15-20 minutes, move!

I don’t fish the north end so I’d say go south.

    Good Luck.

I have found the action on the gravel to be exceptional but the keep rate of slot fish has been much worse than what we were doing on the rock reefs. We did experiment last Sunday and trolled a shallow rock reef with smaller size minnow baits like a #11 Rap and a #12 Husky Jerk. The wind was not too bad and it was overcast. We found a couple of keepers this way and also had 2 bonus smallmouth. Once the sun came out the bite was done. I plan on trying this again this weekend to see if we can get more slot fish and then head out to gravel or mud for quantity and quality.

    dino,
funny you should say the bite died when the sun came out – that was what really triggered the bite for me on sunday – about 2pm when it cleared up – we started catching the majority of our fish for the day. i thought that was very unusual. we were in about 18-24 feet of water, not shallow like you. i just thought this was kind of odd.

It does make sense that fish we had going shallow during a low light time would move deeper as the intensity of the sun made them uncomfortable in shallower water. Our loss was your gain. In our case it was for the better because after an extended weekend we needed to head in and leave for home.
