As you have read in other posts and publications , the bite on Mille Lacs is unbelieveable. I was only able to fish the morning so I chose to head to the gravel bars in the south east part of the lake. The waves were a foot or so and they made for a nice drift. I found a decent bite while working the deep edge in 35′ and drifting up to the shallower part of the bar , around 29′. Even as the sun rose in the sky the fish seemed to be most active toward the 30′ range. Drifting with a slip sinker and a pink hook and leech was working great. The wind had calmed a bit by 9:30 and I switched to a spinner and crawler and trolled for a while over the same water. From what I could see the fishermen that were drifting were catching more fish. There was even a boat anchored and using slip bobbers and they were catching a few fish also.
