Taking the wife and kids camping at Father Hennipen State Park on Wed the 12th, have never had my own boat on the lake and was wandering if there are some good spots close to the launch at the park? Also wondered if the bugs are any better Thanks

I know during the tournament last weekend, many slot fish were being caught by Hennipen Island. A #6 Gamakatzu red hook, 3 feet of line, a barrel swivel, 1/8 oz. of weight, a slip bobber and bobber stop is all you need. Very easy for kids and adults to fish. Concentrate on areas where the wind is blowing into the rocks. Tip the hooks with leeches, and hang on!

    Good luck!

There are a lot of good spots not far from that park. Spider Reef, Gull Reef, Otto’s, Hennepin, and more! There is also Isle bay if the lake is rocking. In a normal year (and this year is not normal) you can pick up pike/musky and perch in the bay.

One thing you want to be careful of. There are shallow areas around there. Keep an eye out for the big white marker buoys. Make sure you don’t run your boat up on those shallow rocks. Nothing to get freaked out about, but be careful…..See a few boats do it every year.

The evening bobber brigade won’t be hard to figure out. Slip bobber and leech. During the day work the deeper areas off those same reefs with a bottom bouncer and crawler harness. It’s been pretty consistent since the opener.

You will like that campground. I think it’s one of the best on the lake. Used to stay there all the time.
