    TURN YOUR NAV/ANCHOR LIGHTS ON!!!

I managed to get a little night fishing in this weekend. Both nights had close calls with a couple different MORONS that had their lights off! Fri. night, making my way back to Castaways, cruising at 25 mph, all of the sudden lights get flipped on maybe 50 yds. dead ahead. He’s lucky I wasn’t going 50 mph?? I get in a few cuss words and get back on plane. As soon as I passed him they got flipped back off! Within another mile lights get flipped on just off my Starboard side! I don’t get it!

Sat. night I’m anchored up on a deep break when my girlfriend abruptly/nervously yells, “BOAT”!! I turned to see a boat coming straight for us and he was MOVING and getting closer real fast!! It’s amazing how fast someone will slow down when they have 2 million candle watts shined in their eyes at close range!! Weekends on Mille has gotten worse and worse over the last few years, from no lights to drivers that’ll fly between other boats to….I’m not sure when the last serious accident happened on Mille, but, one’s going to happen soon with all the stupidity!!

The fishing was pretty slow during the day, we did manage a few pulling cranks in open water but, slow. The evening/night bite was ok slip bobbering the mud but still slow for my boat compared to the earlier in the season. The new bug hatch seems to have slowed them down a bit.

State Regulations say “Navigation lights must be on from sunset to sunrise”.
When at anchor a 360 degree white light is necessary.

Sounds more like an enforcement problem to me.

I wonder if 1 million candle power works as good.
I bank fish most of time cause its quicker but lately its cause I don’t like boaters. Junking my lil outboard plastic boat for a kayak too.

A few summers back my bro and I were anchored up by Hennepin Island, we could hear the faint droan of a motor approaching, but we couldn’t tell from what direction. My brother caught something out of the corner of his eye and blasted a beam from his 1 million candle power spotlight on the island, these two guys were heading right for the rocks, at the last second they pulled up their motor and slammed into some rocks, after some choice words and some commotion, they paddled out to our boat and asked where the heck they were at. They had been driving around in the dark for hours, and had no idea where their landing was at. As it was the same landing we were out of, we steered them in the right direction and told them not to veer too far to the South, as there were another set of rocks to deal with. Been out to Sherman’s and ran a #**t head’s bobber over cause he didn’t have his lights on, even after I buzzed his line off and cussed him out, he still didn’t turn his lights on. I tell ya, someone will get run over, I just feel sorry for the crew who is not at fault by running over a nonlighted boat.

Last year me and my bro-inlaw were coming in from the mud and all the sudden he looks at me and says “do you smell pot”? I was like wow I do, then all the sudden about thirty yards away on come the lights. Stupidity is gonna kill someone up there.

Last week I came across a boat trolling the weedline with no lights on. At first I thought I was an idiot for not seeing them but there was no way their lights were on before we found them. So I am going to have a new procedure for running in the dark and it includes having the camera ready to go and take a nice flash shot and turn em in.

I’ve tried this and unfortunately the flash from the camera makes the bow and stern lights appear to be “lit.”

We really could use some more enforcement out there on the weekends to catch some of these guys before someone gets seriously injured… or worse.

We came across a couple of knuckleheads in a boat casting for muskys Saturday night right in front of the access by the casino that didn’t have thier lights on.
