A week on the pond!

I just returned from a week with the whole family staying at Izaty’s. While there were too many kid activities to fish more than a few hours a day, we certainly had our fill of catching fish.

I had planned all this trolling on the flats, but found such excellent fishing on the deep gravel that I never got to the mud.

    The two memorable events:

Took my son out on his 5th birthday and he and his 6 year old cousin each caught many fish with matching 26″ er’s being the largest. Nothing like listening to a couple kids squeal while pulling up big walleyes in 30′ of water.

My brother and I took our novice fisherperson wives out one night and boated over 30 fish with 24 in between 24″-27″.

I did not even wet a rod either time out. It was more fun netting and laughing.

A great trip with hundred’s caught, most released, a couple fish dinners, sore hands and the biggest fish was 27 and 3/4″.

C’mon, 24 between 24 and 27 inches? One nite with the novice wives??? If so, good for you and great for the ladies! Sorry, but I just find those numbers hard to believe.

What a great way to spend a week. I don’t doubt the numbers at all. those size fish are all over the lake in huge numbers and man are they fun to catch. Great job and I bet you have a bunch of new fishing partners for life now.

Sorry you doubt those numbers, there’s one in every crowd.

I fished what’s probably my last tourney last friday and saturday. We boated over 40 fish on saturday with 10 over 26″s, the biggest 27″s so I can believe those numbers real easily especially if they fished the evening!

Oh by the way I’m like fishing with a little kid at this point, need help baiting my hook, taking the fish off, etc, etc…………….

    So believable…………….easily!

    500,

I am sorry you have not fished Mille Lacs this summer or you would believe it. It also does not take an expert to be successful bobber fishing in the evening with circle hooks. Just find a good spot to put the boat.

With the high ratio of large fish I would really encourage more people to use circle hooks. We had very few fish get off and they were almost always hooked in the top of the nose or sometimes in the side of the mouth if the bobber was away from the boat.

I can’t wait to get back. Heading to Woman Lake for the 4th though.

7 days of fishing you can catch alot of fish right now.

Hitting deep water you can also hit ALOT of bigger fish.

500 – nothing personal but either get up there and experience the great fishing or don’t sit back and take shots. I was up monday and only fished 40 minutes before we got weathered off – we had a 27, 24 and a 21. If you don’t belive me ask the 14 year old boy who has cance and just caught the biggest fish of his life (the 27) or as his 11 year old sister who also bagged her biggest (24) ever.

This is not the mille lacs of 20 years ago – either go up and experience one amazing bite or just continue to hang out in the peanut gallery and take shots!

I don’t think “500” was taking a shot. Just merely stating an opinion.

I’ve been up a couple times. Sorry, but I was NOT trying to take any shots on anyone! Just because I may have an opinion makes me a bad person or “one in every crowd”??? Take a closer look at what I said, NOT what you think I said!

Seemed like you thought they maybe lying, or at least exagerating.

Just questioning. Sorry, my bad. I won’t question anyone or give an opinion here any more.
    Take care and good fishing.

Um, no… maybe just dont insinuate that someone is exagerating or lying. Your the one who said to re-read and see what you really “SAID” vs. what someone may have “Thought” you said…

Why come in someones post who had a great time and crap on it ??? Want that… there are other sites dedicated to that sort of stuff. The reason I come here is because usually it a very positive non bickering site.

So as our grandparents say “if you cant say anything nice dont say anything at all”.

Im not a moderator and have nothing to do with the running of this site, but I personally think the numbers are realistic, and hate to see people challenging a great post so that THEY dont want to post anymore.

WHy would anyone want to share if they are going to get “really, those numbers are pretty high, since I cant catch that many you must be full of spit… “. I know I wouldnt post jack after that

Mille Lacs has an unbelieveable year going for itself, and the numbers are a little higher for most everyone.
I’d personally like to hear anything “500” has to say about ML. He probably catches more fish on ML in one year than most fisherman catch up there in 10 years.
“500” please post any info or fishing stories you would like to share.
Even a PM to me would be greatly appreciated!!!

Um, maybe take a chill pill. I did say, “If so, good for you and great for the ladies.” Yeah, so I found 24 between 24-27 questionable in an evening. BIG DEAL! I wasn’t trying to “crap” on anyones parade. I personally appologized to EJ in a PM. To you, I guess an appology isn’t good enough. I said I was sorry and I’m done with this post. Please feel free to PM any time.

Jack, thanks for the kind words. I’ll give you a PM.

Hell, no harm done in my book. I took what “500” wrote more like, “are you sure it didn’t just seem like that many fish that size?” But if you compare that report to most of them this year, they all seem to be running about the same. It must be a good year. Personally I don’t think any of you have a caught a single walleye this year. You’re all just posting this stuff to kill us non-boat-owning fishermen.

Mille Lacs is going through “One of those years” right now where everything anyone does catches numbers of nice fish! The numbers are hard to believe by some. Heck, people think I am exagerating when I tell them of recent outings. Thank God for pics!
Corey, I know you by reputation, and you are quite a stick from what I have seen. I have fished against you in a number of tournies.
    Take care all!
    See you up there!
