Fish Story.

Ok, so I’m out fishing solo on Saturday morning. About 10am a pig slams my spinner/crawler harness and tears off about 30 feet of line. I’m thinking I probably have a pike or ski going. Anyway, as the fish comes to the surface I’m mumbling something like “Holy Crapoloa! That is a Pig Eye” Scoop her up and measure out a 29+ incher. I briefly box up the fish and set the camera up. After shooting what I thought was about a 45 second to one minute video, back she goes. When I go to view the clip……dead battery nothing filmed.

So, I’m all pissy as half the fun of a big fish is showing it off. And most of you guys who fish Milly a lot know a 29er is rare this time of year. What-cha-gunna-do? So, I set up and point the boat back over the track plot of the trolling run I just finished. Not 15 minutes later, wham! Another nice fish on and peeling line like the first one. I just know right away it’s another pig eye and I got no camera, no witness…..only a fish story. Second fish is a plump 30 ½ incher. Huge head and eyeballs the size of quarters! Man, what a beauty.

So there ya have it. Probably the 2 biggest fish that will come over the side of my boat this year (or until fall) and I got nothing! Nothing but a fish story.

    John,

Before I can say that it’s truely not a fish story…did you boat them on the right…or left side of the boat??

That sucks and it happens to me frequently…a guy shouldn’t have to carry a 12 pack of batteries around, two digitals and on throw away…but I do!

Only to have what happened last night…”NO CARD”.

Lucky I had my camera in the cell phone!

Great story.. I feel the pain. my gal wacked a 30 at high noon in front of Karpens a few years back. I couldnt get the camera to work so I had to get the fish back in the water quick. My gal started balling then the camera came on so I took a pic of her balling and said that should be enough proof.. True but sad story..

Besides she has a 29 in the living room. I cant crack it. She rubs that in all the time..

I talked to Jon on the VHF just after he got them both and threw them back….I thought I heard a tear runnin down his cheek so I believe him.

Just kiddin Jon…it was too windy to hear much of anything.
I wish we would have gotten in touch on the radio earlier and I could have run over to you and gotten pics for you.

It was good seein you and getting some “eye time” on Mille Lacs.

    Pretty cool Jon,

Josh and I heard you talking with Buckshot of the radio!! Breaking the 29 inch mark is one thing but to go over the 30 inch mark is big!!!

    Great job!

By any chance, was that in the area I saw you on Sunday??
We caught some fish there and some just south and east on acouple of other spot’s!!!

Bummer Jon. Those are heartbreakers when you cannot sit back Monday morning and look at that big walleye on the computer screen. I feel your pain.
I either forget my camera or forget to charge it up.
30″ mark is not an easy task on the big pond no matter what time of year it is.
Congrats a couple beauty fish Jon!
