Day time best bet

Taking a customer to Mille Lacs (He doesn’t fish much) I would take him in the evening for a bobber bite but he and I have commitments (Little League coaching) so our evening are tough and with family on the weekends it gets tough. I told him we would go and now I need a place/style to start with…I assume riggin long snells on the flats would work but could we bobber fish on some rocks maybe slightly deeper? As I stated He doesn’t fish much and I want an easier pattern. ie: when the bobber goes down you have a bite.

Anyway any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    What about pulling cranks?

When the bait fights back you have a fish!

On sunday we pulled cranks in open water and over rocks catching fish in both areas…………….but you need to be patience, their not jumping in the boat. Bobber fishing the rocks may produce better in the evening. If you got a good spot!

Rigging on the flats is very easy also. To be honest, with the way the bite is going this year rigging can be very easy to do as even my 6 year old has gotten the hang of it. Basically there are virtually no snags on the flats. Once weight is felt on the line there is no mistaking it is a fish. Once a person feels this weight 2 or 3 times they will immediately get the hang of it. All they will need to do is feed line, close the bail, feel for the weight again and cross there eyes. Or in my sons case; Reel, reel, reel!!!

Really, the technique of rigging the flats is very simple.

I would agree with fish. The flats would probably be the easiest. If you aren’t marking fish, move!!

the flats have been putting out fish this week. the only problem has been the size of the fish, all over 20″. of the last 18 or so fish we caught in my boat, 1 was under 20″. yesterday a friend and i were out on the flats for the afternoon and got a dozen or so from 211/2 to 271/2 inches. as far as someone trying to get the hang of rigging, it is real easy. as someone said above, after 2 or 3 bites, they will figure it out as there isn’t any snags out there. when your rod starts to bend, let the line go, close the bail, feel the fish and set the hook. long snells have been working with crawlers. good luck……….tom fellegy

Also try crawlers and spinners, Its just like pulling cranks. It has been working all over the lake. Any place they are getting them rigging this will work.

We rigged the Mud 7 -8 -9 mile and Boot, we caught 12 fish and the biggest went 26″. Client caught it and had a ball needless to say the trip was a hit! I wasn’t keeping fish so we CPRed em all. Just got an email from his partner asking why he didn’t get to go also! Thanks everybody for the advice.

I am glad it worked out for you. Did your client catch on easily? Post up some pictures if you can.

Here is a 26.5″ my buddy caught this past Sunday.
