Here’s a couple more from Mille Lacs from the last full moon bite. To avoid over-doing a good thing, these will be the last of my own pics I’ll post…. until my next trips that is.

This first one is a pic of Tom Lee with the largest walleye caught during those last series of guide trips. Mt fish ruler only goes out to 30.5″ and this dandy sorta hung off the edge a teeny bit. 30.75″ is what we kinda figured this piggie taped and on a digital scale she was well over that magic 10 Lb mark. This particular fish completely inhaled a #12 husky jerk in the craw pattern…. fished in 7′-8′ of water near a pair of rock humps.

And this second pic is of Jim Kaufer. He’s been the subject of more than a few of my pics lately as he simply has to be the luckiest angler to ever hold a fishing pole! This particular pic is of Jim holding a 29″ walleye caught on a firetiger bomber Long A out of 8′ of water.

See ya’ all on Mille Lacs later this month!

    James,

I hauled my little boat up to The Pond on Thursday last week and what a blast! My Dad was visiting from CA and loves Walleye but has never fished for them. I have never caught a Walleye on Mille Lacs without a guide and am just plain intimidated out there! Anyhow, I decided to give it a run and considering it would be Dad’s first time, where better to screw up a persons perspective on Walleye fishing then Mille Lacs! The comedy of errors that ensued where simply NOT going to keep us from fish. When we got there, I realized my 3 yr old had removed one of my Wackers which made backtrolling difficult to say the least. We meant to launch at Indian Point since there was a SE blowing and instead lauched by the Big Walleye. Our first attempt to backtroll showed me how valuable those wackers are as the first set of waves blasted me with water and put my bilge to the test! I decided for safety sake to loader up the boat and launch at Indian Point. On the way back we noticed a thick flock of seagulls feeding on baitfish and Dad suggested we run a few cranks through there….well sure as snot within a few seconds my rod got SLAMMED….I thought must be a smallie! I landed a nice 23″ ‘eye! I was so psyched that as I was removing the fish from the net she really jumped burying the forward hook in my middle finger! I sat there for a second trying to figure on what to do and, fearing I may never find fish again, grabbed the pliers and did the old 1,2,3! A little electrical tape and a strip of cotton from my shirt and we were back in business! In total we counted 21 fish from 3Pm to 7:30Pm and then decided to have a Steak and head home! I’ll tell ya what, I think my Dad is hooked on Walleye now as we were like little kids laughing our heads off! What a day!

    Hey man,

Great story although I’m sorry to hear about the finger. I’ve had that happen myself and used the same ‘cure’ that you did. Its amazing how far the skin can stretch, eh?!

Anyway, glad to hear you enjoyed yourself. Sounds liek the fish were really active for you during the day. Get any mongo piggies? How deep were you fishing? Regardless, glad to hear that you and your dad had a peach of a time.

That’s the way fishing’s supposed to be! To bad on most bodies of water it rarely works out that way….. Mille Lacs is a real gem.
