Just wondering what the new regulations are for Mille Lacs regarding walleye.

I was reading through the new fishing regulation book and noticed that the general rule for walleye posession limit is @ 6 (with no more than 1 over 20″ may be taken each day), but we all know that Mille Lacs has special regulations.

Just want to know what to expect, before i read it at the landing.

The regs stay the same as last year…
Under the regulations, anglers may keep four walleye up to 20 inches, with one trophy over 28 inches in the four-fish limit. Walleye from 20 to 28 inches must be released.

Starting July 15, anglers will be allowed to keep walleye up to 22 inches, with one trophy over 28 inches in the four fish limit. All walleye from 22 to 28 inches must be released.
    Starting 10 p.m. on May 15th; Ending at 12:01 a.m. on June 12th.
No one may fish for any species or possess fishing gear on the lake from 10:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m. during the night fishing ban.

Unless I’m not reading this correctly, prior to July 15th you must also release any walleye under 14 inches.

    Opener
    14″ – 20″ and one fish over 28″
    July 15th
    0″ – 22″ and one fish over 28″

    Is this correct?

Subp. 4. Mille Lacs Lake and associated tributaries special management regulations.

    A. While a person is on or fishing in Mille Lacs Lake or its associated tributaries to the posted boundaries, the daily and possession limit for walleye is four. Except as provided in item items B, all walleye in possession C, and D, while a person is on or fishing in Mille Lacs Lake or its associated tributaries to the posted boundaries, all walleye in possession must be from 14 inches to 20 less than 20 inches in length or greater than 28 inches in length, inclusive. All walleye that are less than 14 inches or greater than 20 to 28 inches in length, inclusive, must be immediately returned to the water.

    B. Notwithstanding item A and except as provided in items C and D, from July 15 to November 30, while a person is on or fishing in Mille Lacs Lake or its associated tributaries to the posted boundaries, all walleye in possession must be less than 22 inches in length or greater than 28 inches in length. All walleye that are 22 to 28 inches in length, inclusive, must be immediately returned to the water.

Where did you get that info? My understanding is the regs are exactly as they were last year. 0-20 inches and 0-22. Wish there was a 14 inch minimum however….

Also, NO culling out of your live-well. can not return fish to lake to replace it with a different fish.

    That’s from the 2004 regs….

    No change from last year.

    From the current DNR page-

walleye over 28 inches is allowed in possession. Limit four. The slot will revert to four walleye up to 20 inches with one over 28 inches in the four fish limit on Dec. 1. Regulations will be posted at public water accesses, will be available by calling the DNR toll free information
number (888) 646-6367, and will be posted on the DNR website

Night closure: No one may fish for any species or possess fishing gear on the lake from 10 p.m. through 6 a.m. starting at 10 p.m. May 15 and ending at 12:01 a.m. June 11.
