Anyone want to join me on the big pond Sunday? I have been working on my dad to go with up there all year, so I finally talked him into a work on the cabin/fishing adventure. We are going to be up Sunday and Monday. I was thinking if a few of us teamed up we could cover more ground and find some jumbos. I have the H2O/chip, vex, and more than enough gear ready to go.

By the way, we will be stoking up a pretty big fire on Sunday night if anyone wants to stop by. The cabin is about 200 feet North of the Hunters turn on the East side of 47. Anyone know the procedure for getting a burning permit up there?

I know some of the gas stations also double as Fire Wardens. Most Fire Wardens have a DNR sign in front of the store or in the store window. Lundeen’s, Johnson’s Portside would be a good place to start. I’m pretty sure you can e-mail them and they will steer you in the right way. FLAME ON!

You dont need a permit for recreational fires unless there is a ban. There is a difference between a ban and a restriction..

That fire will probably exceed recreational status. We are cutting about 10 trees and cleaning up some piles in the yard. It was nice when we could just go to Lakeside and get a permit.

Anybody going out of Hunter’s on Sunday? Maybe we will see you around. I am sure we will have dinner and a few at the resort Sunday evening.

I just found out u do not need a permit if there is 3 inches of snow on the ground. Was told this by the fire permit issuer here in Stacy MN

We went out of Rocky Reef on Sunday. The weather was awesome. We fished from 7:30am-2pm. 16 keeper perch and atleast 50 more released. Most of the fish came from 30 fow just off the reef. I even managed my first pout of the year. I jumped holes all day, while my Dad fished in the house with the camera. It is a blast watching the perch come up and hit the lure. Best lures were a silver buckshot and a perch colored varmint. The three biggest fish came on the deadsticks with a fathead. As for the burning, we got it all done before the wind and snow picked up last night. The drive home was sloppy, but there was only about an inch of snow up there.
