Fished the West side mud yesterday afternoon for a few hours. Ended up keeping 5 jumbos and 2 walleyes. Here’s a picture of my dad and myself with the two biggest. They measured out at 13 1/2″. Wish we could have fished longer!!

Hey CA nice fish. I got a question for ya if you were fishing the west side. Im heading up the weekend after next. We are bringing 2 sleds up and want too head out of the public access north of the casino. Do you happen too know if that area is ok too head out of as far as heaves or anything? I figure heaves would be about our only obstacle with taking the sleds out.

James, if you’re on sleds you will have no problem what so ever. There is only 1 heave that I have seen on the West side and it’s 1/4 mile from shore and easy to get across. There’s 20+ inches of ice and once you get past the first crack/heave it’s smooth sailing!! My friend went out of the Garrison access a week ago with his truck and had no problem with the heave.

Sounds good. We will be heading out predawn and wanted too know what too expect. Does that heave come across in front of that landing by chance? Oh and did the eyes come during the day? Spoons or live bait by chance? Thanks.

The heave runs all along the West side. I really varies on being a heave or a crack depending on where you go out. We went out of Terrys yesterday and it’s just a crack with no bridge or anything needed. When we came back in we were on Twin pines road and it was heaved up with a bridge across. The last time I went out of the casino landing it was only a crack. I’ve never been out of the garrison landing this year but if my friend took a truck across it can’t be much.

We fished from 2-5. Both the walleyes were caught around 4:15-4:30. I was using a perch colored glo devil with waxies and I kept 2 perch and a smaller walleye. My dad was using a white hook and crappie minnows and he kept 3 very nice perch and a 17-18 inch walleye.

Thanks for the info. I remember a couple years ago we had a lot of walleyes looking and not biting and i downsized too crappie size glow hooks and that was the ticket. I see alot of people talking about walleye lookers this year, im curious if some downsizing too crappie gear might turn the deal again.
