Neighbor rented a 10 hole sleeper out of macs twin bay resort this weekend. I have never icefished millelacs and am looking for any tips. The guys I am going with are more concerned with making it to the bar by 9am saturday so they can watch NASCAR quallifying. They fish once every two years or so. I fish 3 times a week and dont really drink so you can tell what my priority is going to be. I am bringing my portable and dont mind drilling 50+ holes if thats what it takes. Any pointers? Run and gun or sit in the perm?
any info would be much appreciated. You can post here or email directly at

Run an gun you are on the right side of lake as of yesterday. Use a small perch color buckshot rattle spoon with wax worms or minnow head ,worms worked better for me. 26 to 32 fow. Here’s a little help Doe Island. Good luck If you see a Pewter Avalanche and black frabill stop and say hi

Thanks for the tips fellas. Only a few hours and counting. I am hoping the last post was referring to that website for guide services for rent and not the fishing report. I clicked on the weeks report tab to find the report was from June I think Thanks again Ill let you guys know what happens. Ill keep my eyes out for the avalanche. I think we’ll be in Red 95 dually ex cab 4×4 chev with topper. If im out exploring ill have the Frabill ranger twin.

It’s a good thing I didnt have any expectations because fishing was not good for me. We managed a few eelpout out of the sleeper. I went to shore to get a lakemap saturday a.m. The crowd was so big waiting for the vikes arctic blast that I couldnt even make it around the parking lot. I Couldnt deal and backed the monster dually back around the lot and went back out on the lake. Took out the wheeler and portable and drilled about 1000 holes between father hennepin island and the pressure ridge. Found a few tiny perch in the 15-20ft range. The pressure ridge is at about 38-40ft. I did mark some smaller suspended fish along the ridge but no biters. Had quite a few lookers throughout the weekend but no biters and I threw everything I had at them. Oh well, back to some good metro fishing action for the next two weeks then up for the yearly trip to URL.
