Alright all you GTG guys, I am going up on Friday morning with a group of Firemen from town here,(make sure you don’t play with matches while were gone ) Anyway….any particular color or style of jigging, tip-ups, swimming rap. Please give up some info. Sounds like I missed a good weekend, pretty sure the “boss” would not have let me be gone two weekends in a row.

You missed a really good time!

I can’t say much about the Walleye fishing…or Walleye catching rather, as they avoided our spot all day. The Perch however seemed to like silver colored spoons. I heard this from more than one person. I was using a small silver Kastmaster spoon in a dropper rig. That’s where you take the hook off the spoon and tie on 4-6 inches of line in it’s place. Then put a small hook on the ends of the line. I was hanging a ftahead on that hook. The spoon get’s their attention and then they eat the fathead. I also heard that some folks were having luck with waxworms for Perch.

Good luck and make sure you let us know how you did!

We were up this weekend and did…OK. Our best luck came on a jigging spoon, any color although silver did seem to catch a few more fish. We started out on some of the larger flats with few fish on the vex and camera. We moved to a small flat and had fish under us all day and a good chunk of those were nice eye’s. We ended up with 20 or so nice jumbos and a half dozen keeper eye’s on Fri. The bite picked up about 2pm-430pm.

As far as the fatheads went was it the whole minnow or just the heads

I was using whole fatheads, hooked behind the dorsal fin.

Just the head. We tried whole minnows on spoons and nothing. Although, we did run a couple bobber lines, hook and (rainbow) minnow and did catch a few fish on those. Like usual, the more active fish were up off bottom 3-5′, we didn’t catch anything on bottom.

i had a tip-up out for about 7 hours on saturday… nothing. when i pulled it, the fathead was live and kicken. i had my camera down and seen some eyes, but couldn’t get them to bite. the perch were interested only in wax worms, they only poked at crappie minnows and fathead heads. also, the perch seemed more aggresive, when i started pulling the waxie up and away, thats when they mostly attacked it. two guys, about 20 feet from me, pulled in a 26 & 27 inch eye, they were banging the bottom about 5 times with a spoon treble with the head of a fathead, then pulling up about 3 feet and letting drop, they would hit it on the drop. this was in 31 fow. good luck !!!

Not trying to take away any secret spots, but what flat or reef were you on. Once again thanks for the advise.

The best presentation for us was a plain sliver hook, lead shot, whole fathead (not too big), and an bobber that was in near bouyant equilibrium. The bight was very light so a heavy bobber was important. We holed two 14″ perch, with our average perch around 10″. We tried everything from Glo-Devils to Buckshot rattle spoons, but sometimes old traditional hooks work the best. I plan on posting some pictures of the 14″ perch. They were HUGE. We did hole one 24″ eye on a plain hook and a shiner.

Our bight started sometime between 8:30-9:00 am and last until around noon. I tried to follow the school in a portable, but didn’t have much luck. We sure had fun and the GTG was very cool as well.

My best luck came on Forage Minnow spoons in the smallest size and tipped with a waxie Both walleye and perch were hitting the waxies. My presentation was to keep the jig about a foot off bottom until a fish showed on the Marcum. Then I would lift the jig slowly and they would usually hit it. It seemed minnow heads were good right away in the morning and later in the evening and waxies worked the rest of the day. We were in 26 fow with a sand bottom.

All of the perch in my house came on white rat finkies tipped with waxies. I tried using spoons and minnows, both heads and whole, and ended up switching back.
