Well, I just returned home from my trip to mille lacs. My jaw dropped in awe of the amount of ice fisherman and vast space on this lake. Taking the snowmobile out eight miles for the first time, was the most awesome feeling I have ever had.
The first morning we did very well on the perch, lots of medium sized fish, but the big ones were also there, just hard to entice them to bite at times.
That night we struck out on the walleyes, with no bites. The next morning I was recovering from the lack of sleep from the previous night, and we decided to head out for the sunset bite. We did alright, I hooked into four walleyes, lost one in the hole, had two eaters, and one dink. Also that night I had a big perch take a 4” golden shiner.
The next night we fish at public lake north of mille lacs, and did very well on sunnies and nice crappies. I had a younger cousin with me for this trip, so it was a little difficult to “run and gun” as he was always wanting to set up the shack and heater. It was also a wake-up call on my gear. I have a nice shack, but I will definetely be investing in a polar in the near future. My seats rattled loose on the way out,…and I just didn’t have enough room. Oh well, I had a great time and I will be back soon, that is for sure!!
If you guys are looking to get on the great fishing right now- give Scott Stiel a call-
I loved fishing mille lacs, this was my first time (of many to come) on the ice.
We let all of our fish go, except the three in the second photo.
Above is my first iced perch on mille lacs.
