I got a trolling motor for Christmas and I want to put it on the port side of my warrior tiller because I usually back troll and always stand when I fish therefor the electric is right at my left hand, not on the other side of the main motor. Can anyone give me a good logical reason not to do this? I have never seen a tiller with it on the port side and I don’t need to be like everyone else, but there has to be a reason. Thanks for the help.

Which side is the port side?
Ditto what Derek wrote.
I’m guessing the reason you see the electric motor on the other side the most is due to battery location. That’s just my guess. Nice gift…EnjoyJanuary 3, 2006 at 7:18 pm #408718I agree with Derek and Trigger. Put it where you feel comfy. Just make sure you think it through and make sure you have easy viewing of your electronics while standing in your fishing postion. OR move your electronics, so you you. Go through a whole fishing screnario in your head on your favorite spot to back troll while standing in your desired motor location. Is your electronics easy to view, do you have to wrench your neck to see it? If so remember you will spend many hours in your boat wrenching your neck. What about net location? Easy access? Bait location, etc. IF you want it on the other side and feel comfortable with the above go for it.
My guess People put it on that side for a tiller is, electornics viewing is simpler on most set ups. Good Luck and Post a pic of what you do!
January 16, 2006 at 6:33 pm #412260Lip, I took your advise and did a trial run with the motor on the port side. I pretended to rig/back troll, drift, and even pull boards and everything seemed to work fine. I have a Lowrance 104C on a ram mount so seeing the electronics from anywhere in the boat is not a problem. Only problem I ran into was the power cable on the motor wasn’t long enought to reach the pre rigged outlet, but 3′ of wire to extend it and all is good. Now just need to order the wackers and I’m all set Thanks for the help, might have to hit pool 2 and give it a try if this weather holds. I’ll post pics in a day or two. thanks again.
January 19, 2006 at 11:39 am #413037Tuck, thanks for the tip, I’ll check them out. Do you have these on your boat? Have you had Wave Wackers before? Why are these better other than the price?
January 19, 2006 at 1:53 pm #413061Yes, I have had both. When I was running Crestliner Pro Staff boats, I had one with Wave Wackers. The best way to put it is Whitecap seemed more “Robust” and had better rubber to fill the gap around the motor. Brian will do a great job for you!
TuckJanuary 19, 2006 at 3:05 pm #413095T-Bone, I also have these on my boat. Great servcie and even greater product. I bought a new kicker and had to get a new set up on that side. I though I would have to pay about half of the price of the original, I was wrong, within a day I had my new side for aobut 1/4 of the price of a new set. These have took on some mongo waves on Mille Lacs. I have had my big motor go under a few times and these things took on the waves. Stayed pretty dry also .
White Caps all the way!
January 19, 2006 at 4:54 pm #413131Lip, you to huh. I have never seen a pair of these on a boat. Does any one know if they have a booth at the boat show in Minneapolis right now? I work in Eagan, so it won’t be far to run to Prior Lake to check them out, but I wanted to poke around at the show anyway.
January 20, 2006 at 3:07 pm #413388T-Bone, with three motors on the back, I do not have much of the solid poly-carbonante anymore, but that stuff is great. The rubber and the system really holds up well. I have had my one side since May 2002. Still looks pretty new and has held up through some big rollers on Mille Lacs, Kabetogama and Leech.
I have had buddies with wave wackers and I’m glad that I have my WhiteCaps
jstickPosts: 2January 24, 2006 at 8:46 pm #414224Hello there tbone.
I believe that most people keep the electric on starboard side for the sake of not leaning forward when seated. some trolling motors interfear with transducers. keep in mind where ducers are. i have had trouble with electronics when power is given to my trolling motor. graph will sometimes get alot of interferance. i dought that u will have any problems with new electronics, my graph is alittle older. good luck fishing! Say hello to mother goose.January 25, 2006 at 11:56 am #414368Jake, welcome to the site. I took your Dad’s advise and put it in front of me…that’s port side for me though. The transducer is on the starboard side. here is a pic.
