And I’m not talking cheatin’ on your significant other. How about getting a little contest started for the GTG. I’m thinking pretty high stakes, say a dollar per pot. One for biggest eye(length) and one for biggest perch(length)?? Must have witness & digital photo and/or the fish. Winner take all. Contest hours could run from Sat 12AM til Sat 5PM(or so)???

I’m not sure if IDA has other plans for this weekend, so if I’m infringing upon them, please whack this post.

but being from WI you might be interested to know it is also known as a freshwater cod. I have had the pleasure of eating them now for 2 years Seriously they taste pretty much like a cross between lobster and halibit.

It all started one night up at the festival in Walker. Now I just take from hole back and boil them in 7up with some garlic butter YUMMY!!!

I couldn’t tell you AM. Never had my fingers close enough to the mouth to find out. Just cut the rig and go. BTW, make you get a good grip on them. They are slimy. Also have a digital along for your first experience. I want to see the look on your face.

What a bunch of sissy-nancy girls. Its just a fish. Grab it like a pike (behind the gills), grip it with gusto, and all will be fine.

Or it will wrap itself up your arm and send you out the shack door and onto the ice screaming for your mother.

One or the other. I forget…

One important point here boy’s! Please release the pout back in the lake if your not going to eat them with bucky12pt. They are good for the lake……..don’t leave them laying out on the ice for the eagles to eat!

Dang it James, I was hoping to see Am streaking across the ice with about a 4lb pout wrapped clean up to his elbow!

Bob, I couldn’t agree more about this with all fish. No matter how small the perch or panfish are, they will never grow bigger if we don’t put them back in the lake.

Now you guys are making me worry a little. I would definitely put them back, it might still be attached to the rod, but it will go back
Why in the heck would people throw fish on the ice to die I see it here every once in awhile and just have to shake my head

The piling of pout on the ice has improved from the past. You used to see big mounds of them stacked out on the mud sometimes……….I guess I used to leave a few out on the ice also! I’ve got much better with age………

I will give pout some credit… not many fish out there that weigh 3 or 4 pounds that can turn around and go back down in a 8″ ice hole!

How the heck do you grab the gills when they are coming tail 1st?

Nothing quite like a pout wrapping around your arm and the line at the same time.. then getting the slime off everything.

Here is a pic of one from last weekend. Not the biggest one swimming in the lake. I agree they are pretty good eating. I’d be glad to prepare a couple when we are up there!

If you are in a sleeper house and leave a couple of lines down over night, use the holes that are fartherest apart. Those little buggers love to travel around and tangle up all the lines.
