I plan to put the boat in storage this weekend. With deer hunting coming the following week, it does’nt allow time to catch any more walleye!

As sad as it is to put it away, it really has been a good year for catching walleye on Mille Lacs. Oh well only 6 months till I take it back out of storage!!!!

Yup. Put her to bed last Saturday. Now I stand in the garage and think about next spring. Ah well, it’s almost Deer Season! Then comes Ice Fishing!

After catching this stinky predator I gave my girl what appears to be her final bath of the 05′ season
It has been a terrific season on Mile Lacs and if by chance the November full moon does bring warm enough temps with her, maybe, just maybe I will have to get her wet a few more times with Bobber Al or maybe even one of the fellas on this sight!! The full has been great and I will definately be back next fall for the full tour!! I hope to meet a few more of you this winter on ice, I should have the “ICE BOX” done in time!!
    Until we chat again………

I’m with Tuck and Kooty, why put it away, DO change the lower unit now. and it will always to ready if and when you need it. Pool 4 and 2 for awhile will be getting better, and when 2 does ice up, Pool 4 is always pretty hot.

    Tuck,

Here’s the thing that’s always bothered me about using a boat in the winter. How do you keep it from freezing solid and breaking something? For example how do you know that all of the water has drained out of your engine cooling system, your live well pump, maybe water inside one of the trailer hubs. If it gets below freezing in the garage then ice forms and things could get broken, right?

    Thanks

i too use the boat 12 months a year and i follow some tips jimmy houston gave one time on using boats in cold weather and have never had a problem(knock on wood) along with changing lower unit oil, putting a can of heet in the gas tank, after the boat is trailered run all your pumps for a little bit and this should clear water left in lines and pumps, also trim motor all the way down to drain excess water. but if you are still worried stay home walleyes dont bite very good during the winter anyway

I keep mine in the garage all winter, and not outside. I do lower the motor, and drain it a couple of times when done, and then park it in the garage with the motor tilted down to slowly drain out whatever is left. I do not use livewells or bilge pumps in the winter. I pull the plug religiously when leaving the river. I also take more care in warming up the motor before taking off. I break more stuff in the summer anyway! The tilt and trim run a little stiff though..

I’ll be taking the lift and dock in this Sunday. Last year I just barely beat the ice & that ain’t good.
I plug my live well intakes w/ hose caps this time of the year. Then I have a an adaptor made the has the same female thread as the male thread ( I can’t tell you what the NPT size is but my Lund is the same as a hose bib) that I use to connect to an air compressor. Just a little shot and she is good to go. My plug is on the outside my design & I pull it and crank the front up and shes set until ….?
I leave the motors in the water over night this time of the year. Motors should drain out by them selves.
