headed up for the weekend on sunday afternoon and got on the water at about 4. chased muskies for a bit with nothing to show for it. started trolling just north of eddy’s on the southwest side and picked up an eater right away. we found a very non-descript spot on that shoreline in about 10ft that yielded about 10 fish. we looked and looked but couldn’t find anything on the bottom that would make sense of why these fish were hanging in this one spot.
But every time we passed it we smacked fish. Sunday we got 16 fish, with a couple of real nice healthy 26’s and a 27.5. Monday night we had to leave at about 10 which is when things turned on from what we heard.
Against all reason and sanity, I took up Skindog on an open seat offer tuesday night and headed back up. We started at the casino launch only to be pounded by the northwest wind coming at about 20mph. We trailered over to Myr Mar and trolled the tight break on west of Myr Mar with minimal success. Over to Myr Mar reef for the last shot of the night and we found a honey hole. 5 fish in 5 passes for me. In order, 26, 27.5, 27, 26, and a litte guy on a purple perch HJ12.
My question in all of this is on both nights, once I picked up the first couple of fish, my fishing partners switched to clown colored on sunday, and purple perch on tuesday, and i was getting bit 3 times as much as they were. Same exact bait, same spot, same amount of line out, and they wanted my stick bait over another. Any thoughts from you seasoned veterans?
Hoping to make it back up tonight for one last shot at it.
Here are some pics from our time out starting with sunday night and then tuesday night.

Micah, My best guess is that your bait was tuned and the others were not. Sometimes they can be knocked out of tune by catching fish and sometimes especially with the Glass HJ’s, I have noticed that they do not come out of the box tuned very well a lot of the time. I always check mine when I get done fighting a fish and run it along side the boat just to make sure it has the “wiggle” I’m looking for! Good Luck and I would answer Rangers question ! Good luck tonight Cal.

I here what you are saying. We had a total of 3 guys in my boat. In three nights, we had approx 45 fish. One of our guys caught only one of those fish. He is a seasoned veteran, a crankbait trolling fanatic, and was changing cranks, tuning cranks, running different line, etc. with no luck. We even moved him to the side seat in case prop wash was an issue……then the back rod caught fish. When the wind was difficult and I was concentrating on steering and staying on my trolling line, he would get the crankabaits out I would want, put them on my line, and set them to the depth we had identified……fish on! No explanation, but it was a tough three days with that kind of luck.
