Just a little heads up on the lastest conditions here on Mille Lacs. I fished a while early Saturday morning, the air temp was 33 deg’s and surface water temp is now in the low 50’s…..I had 49 at 4:30am and 52-53 after daylight! The crank bite is still a little slow for my boat compared to bobber fishing. I still have a good bobber bite going just before dark on the shallow rock reefs on the eastside. Last night I headed out with a neighbor to spend the evening bobber fishing, only to find TommyB pulling fish in left and right on MY SPOT! He had three in the box when we arrived….and he only had an hour head start! We fished till a little past 8pm and kept 2 nice slots for Jeff’s dinner table. We released a few other smaller walleye in the 13-14 inch range. The bobber bite was best from 5-7pm or so……The morning’s on the lake are sooo nice this time of year. The water is warmer than the air temp so you have the steam coming off the surface, Heck before sunrise I was looking up at the northern lights and jaming to the power loon. What more to you want? It’s the best!!

Well I am looking forward to the end of the week, I will be listening on channel 82 for the IDA reports…….and seeing some new and old faces.

    See ya soon!

Thanks for the updates Bobber. It really helps us out coming from far away. I am bringing my uncle and dad up this weekend for their first full moon experience. Can you guys give us some direction. We are staying at Rocky Reef. Can we stay south or should we head East, North, West? Thanks again, you guys are so lucky to have great fisheries so close. OUT…

I second that….talk to John Odle owner of Rocky Reef. You have some good fishing right out your door at the resort.

driving directions: Take interstate 94 west out of MPLS than take hyway 101 north to hyway 169. Take 169 north to Rocky Reef. You have about a 2 hour drive from MPLS to Rocky Reef.

There are quite a few good spots near Rocky Reef.A few are Andersons Reef,Rocky Reef,Indian Point and out in front of Eddys Resort can also be good for trolling.I am not sure how familiar you are with the lake but having the Mille Lacs chip in the GPS is very helpful this time of year. The bouys have already been pulled and there are some hazards over there and some of these reefs are shallow.Im sure John will also give you some good advice.

I would not get too excited, this will be the worst October full moon in at least 5 years! There will be pleny of little walleye to be caught though if that is your deal.

A short memory is sometimes good.

Remember last year on the night of the full moon? We had 5 footers crashing into Big Point. 20 MPH winds sustained with rain all night.

Remember 2003? Full moon hit on Oct 10th. Too early for a consistent “Big Fish” bite. Let’s not speak of the tight slot.

Remember 2002? Four inches of snow fell the night of the full moon. It sure seemed like me and Dino had the entire lake to ourselves…..

Worst Full Moon bite in 5 years my….

I say it will be the best since 2001. Remeber the Holloween Full Moon that year!!

What qualifies it to be the worst in 5 years?

I personally have never had a situation I would catagorize best or worst when it comes to fishing, anytime on the water is time well spent and the greatest peace of mind I can experience!!!
Big fish, little fish, catching is the ticket!

Eating them is a close second, God I love fresh fish!!!

Dwell on the fun of it in the present and not the “it was better last time we were here”

We have a lot of guy’s covering different areas of the lake and the fish will be found! Those big gals get caught in the fall every year, even by me!

I am starting to wonder myself. In looking at the archives, the 7 to 10 days leading up to the Oct. full moon in past years results differ dramatically than this year.

I don’t care if the big girls aren’t quite ready to go or not. I’m just going to be darn happy to be on the water with some new and old friends!!!

I think 02 was the year with snow which was also on holloween night. Believe me you were not alone on the lake then either although I remember you could not see the lights of shore from 1/2 mile out.

I have found that predicting the fishing is a lot like predicting the weather, you never know how its gonna be till you get out on the lake or you look out the window.I hope you are a weather man so the fishing will be really good!

I hear you Kooty. I guess my situation differs from some folks. Buddies traveling over 4 hours for the annual big fish bite….and with the price of gas, SD roosters, and those NE SD lakes putting out some nice fish, I may be solo.

Thanks Kooty. We are going to keep an eye on the reports. They may leave early if it’s slow, thus would take you up on your offer if the seat was still available.

Not sure about those days. I’m getting pressured to ring a bell on Monday at Hunters though!
