My family is coming to town for the weekend and I talked my grandpa into coming up from WI for a little walleye fishing ( he hasn’t been out on a lake in 5 yrs.) I want to take them up to mille lacs for a little walleye action but had terrible luck the last time I was up there.

Last time I fished the morning on the west end of the lake. It was the first day of a cold front and the fish completely shut down. We trolled the flats, jigged them, drifted them and couldn’t get a fish to hit except for when I was relieving my self off the side.

This time I am taking them up Sat. afternoon and was wondering if I should use minnows, worms, leeches if you can still get them or troll. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have to show my father that TX bass fishing isn’t any better than walleye fishing on the big lake.

    Craig,

I would suggest you head to the flats for the most consistent daytime action. Take some crawlers and pull spinners. I would also attempt leeches and slip bobber fishing if you like that style of fishing. Personally I’m not good at bobber fishing, so spinners would be my first choice. I know some guys that have been knocking them dead doing this.

Fish have been biting good on slip bobbers on the rocks. The area launches have been doing good as well. Is that an option for you?

south east side rock piles were kicking out fish in about nine feet of water as of Monday. We caught several decent eyes (nothing real big) and a whole bunch of perch slip bobbering with leeches.

the launch is not an option, taking out the boat for probably one of the last weekends of the year. Hunting and the wife are grounding it pretty quickly.
