went up yesterday to mille lacs with my brother who is back from colorado. he spent most of time chasing big rainbows with a fly rod (which isn’t all bad) but i wanted him to get bit by a muskie. the first time i got bit, i was $200 in the whole by the next week on line, rod/reel, and some baits.
we started trolling on the south side of vineland bay with an SS Super Shad and a big MG spinner in about 8-12ft at 2.5-3mph. it didn’t take long before my brother says “oh yea, there’s one…” just out from the rum river outlet over a weed flat he hooked this beautiful 40-45 inch fish (i have yet to put a tape in my new boat.) he almost lost her in the weeds but kept pressure on her until she came flying to the surface with a face full of mille lacs vegatation. after a couple of nice pics, we let her go to inflict financial conflict on the next unassuming angler.
unfortunately for us, our walleye bid proved less fruitful. i read james’ report from thursday night and either i’m a total idiot, or he is just that good. we tried weeds, rocks, shad raps, HJ’s, rogues, slip bobbers and leeches in anywhere from 6-14ft of water and found absolutely nothing! we didn’t even see another boat land a fish all night. any thoughts on my predicament would be appreciated.

Gary, the patch you put on it in the front left section of the bow came loose and we took on some water that night…not enough to sink us obviously, but i’m glad i had the bilge hooked up. I picked up some sort of epoxy resin filler from Boat US in Bloomington and they said it should do the trick. Hope to plug it up this week so I can continue the fall hunts. Other than that, it performed just great…with 2 guys, a crap load of gear, a full tank of gas, and a cooler of food and beverages it topped out at 36 on the GPS. By myself trimmed up I think I can get it up over 40 and maybe even 44,45. Almost scary fast in that 15 feet of boat. I’m loving it.

…get this, I was down on the St. Croix in my spot fishing for muskies of which I saw none, and I had a 30 inch 9-10 pound walleye drill the black/red MG spinner I bought for Mille Lacs. I was absolutely speechless. I seriously thought I had a muskie on and just about crapped myself when I brouth it in. I’ll post pics here soon.

    Sweet Eye!!!

I know what you are talking about with the patch. That was there when I got the boat, so it probably has some “age” to it. Let me know if you need any assistance with fixing it up……..
