Full moon roll call

I’ll be up Friday night thru Sunday morning….the direction and the strength of the wind will determine where I will be. I will have two rookies with me who have never trolled at night, so I’m hoping both the lake and the fish will be cooperating for a good weekend.

Like Jon J. said…….watch out for the shallow reefs on the southend. The DNR has been pulling the markers and as of this week, they maybe all off the lake. Meaning reefs like Gull, Spider……to name a few are un-marked. Make sure to know where you are going, prior to heading out in the darkness.

was just out for a sunset drive in the boat…..marker bouy’s are still out on the southend of the lake as of today.

    Good luck everyone!

Lip Ripper, how far up on the north west side do you go typically? i have put in at the casino and had good luck but haven’t made it down past the island/rocks or up around the next point…also, if we are musky fishing during the day, has anyone heard of a good bite going on right now? Rocks, weeds, or sand up north? my brother and good buddy will be up sunday afternoon to chase muskies and then we’ll be trolling sunday night. pardon the naivete but what’s the channel 82? what type of radio is that?

Gotta disagree I find the September phase to be the best bite year in and year out. Can’t wait.

I would agree that the September full moon is really good, NORMALLY, but as warm as the lake still is I have my doubts about the Sept. trolling bite this year . I think the October full moon will be the better of the two night trolling runs this year.

Jack has a good point. Until the temps drop the shallows will be slow.

Cooler days and cool nights in the forecast. I say we get to 60 degree water by Saturday night, I hope.

    witham-

Channel 82 is the channel on a marine band radio. Kinda like a bunch of truckers giving out smokie information but with boats and walleyes instead.

as far as the muskie bite goes, I would work the sand in 1-3′ of water with topwater and bucktails, as soon as the water temps is holding at 65 and not higher then start pounding the rocks, when the perch move up so will the muskies and later in the year when the tullibee come up (what left of them) they will be there in the masses!

Fair enough, but feel free to leave this “slow” bite to me.

I also agree with Jack. I am using this weekend as a gague to see where I personally feel the bite is at. I plan to be mobile, and change tactics often if I do not get bit. October is more or less a no-brainer. The fish will be where I and others expect them to be. But right now with the temps being as they are, transition areas are goin gto be key. Problem with that is, the fish can be much more spread out, and that means covering a lot of ground, er I mean water! And transition areas? Could mean sand to weeds, could mean rock to gravel, could mean deep to shallow! Should be fun!

Let’s Do It! Sunday at the Wharf. Let’s plan to start getting things going around 11am and try to get everyone fed by kickoff time at noon. We did this last Sept and it worked out well.

Feel free to bring some fish, a bag of chips, potato salad or just show up. We will have the cooker and oil covered. Don’t forget the beer!!

The “Fisherman’s Wharf” is on the east side on Big Point Drive. It’s the first resort you come to after you turn off highway 47.

The one of them is withering and worthless and the other almost worn out.

    You decide which is which!

But we can still catch fish as good as anyone!

I will bring a couple bags of chips and some tarter sauce and some fresh fish fillets. You can also boat into the Wharf as there are a lot of open docks this time of year.

    Derek,
I’m not sure about those 2 guys I have heard you got to watch your back when fishing or drinking with these guys ! Make sure you wear your life jacket at all times. But, I have heard they can catch more fish than Tuck, but that ain’t saying much

Does anyone have the frequency for channel 82? I have a handheld scanner but not a marine radio.
