I fish soley on Mille Lacs and most of that is back trolling in a tiller boat. Sometimes with the main motor sometimes with the tiller electric. I just got a new boat and was wondering which side to put the trolling motor on. My last boat had it on the right(starboard) side, which it seems most boats have it there. It just seemed like I was always leaning back behind me to run the electric. Is there a reason that I should not put it on the left(port) side of the boat this time? I am anxious to hear both sides. Thanks for the help.

To each it’s own! I think do whatever feels good for you. I just switched from a tiller to a wheel boat last month. On my tiller I ran a transom mount electric on the starboard side. It all depends on the boat seat position and the reach I think.

    just my thought’s…….

I had the same dilema when I put my kicker on this spring. I ended up on the port side for the very reasons Bob mentioned.

i have a 2025 pro-v LE. i don’t run a electric on the transom, i run my t-8 kicker on the starboard side because it is right behined my seat. i do have it connected to the main motor for steering and the tiller handle is right there for throttle control. i have it set up this way for muskie fishing first and walleye fishing third or forth down the list………tom f

I would mount it where it is the most comfortable to run but make sure it doesnt effect your transducer.Weight is also something to consider probably more important with a heavier kicker but you dont want all the weight to one side of the boat.
    Good luck hunting
