I had the opportunity to get out a while yesterday morning and do some trolling. The water temp is still a bit warm at 69 deg.’s I hooked one smallmouth at 5am…….what it was doing going after my shad rap ” I wonder” No walleye action for this morning troller……..The wind was blowing again this morning, so I stayed in bed!

Let’s all try and keep a close eye on the falling water temp for the September full moon coming soon on the 18th!

I have heard of some local’s catching some fish on cranks in the late evening. One fela said he was getting fish on the perch shad rap #5

We were up there last friday and managed to boat 11 walleyes ranging from 14-21 in. Along with 3 smallies that measured between 18-19in. All of the fish with the exception of one small walleye were taken off of the same rockpile on the south east end. All of the fish came on #5 shad raps in the perch and crawdad colors in 6-10 fow.

That crawdad shad rap has been my #1 producer for trolling the shallow rocks the last 2 weekends. For both perch and walleye. The perch are spitting up small crawfish in the live well. When corking, a small orange or orange/brown jig head has been very productive. I didn’t take note of the water temp, but it’s definately cooling off! Had a sweatshirt on most of the weekend while on the water. There are some nicer fish up in the rocks, even on sunny days like this past weekend. I put this one in the boat at about 1pm. This was in 7-8 feet of water on the rocks.

Nice fish Jon. Good to hear your still boating some nice fish. I haven’t been up there since end of July sometime . You, Mike W. and I might have to hit the lake sometime this Fall trolling for Eyes. No sunscreen should be required this time .

    Jack….was thinking the same thing!

Hows the leech supply holding up for the bobber fisherman? I picked up some a few weeks ago and thought it was slim pickings.

Actually, the wholesaler we use at Anglers Paradise has been able to keep us pretty well stocked. They are diffinetly getting smaller though . I hope he can keep getting them for a while longer. I’m going to want 3-4 pounds in a few weeks when I go up to LOTW for the MTT Championship.

i was out yesterday, 8/29, and the water temp on the south end from cove bay to isle bay was 71 degs. the walleyes were biting during the day on the rocks. real shallow, anchored in 5′ and casting the bobbers even shallower. even caught a 17″er on a crayfish colored rattle trap

I didn’t take note of the water temp this past weekend but i did take note of the good fishing. I was able to put my wife on some nice perch along with a few bonus walleyes. In fact she boated a 22″er over the side of the boat while jigging for perch. I cannot wait the the full moon. I wish it was septemeber all year long!

I was out on Sunday 8/28 and had mostly 69*F surface temp. during the middle of the day along the south shore. Of course there was a lite breeze, and some cloud cover. The surface temp can vary as much as 6-8 degrees between dawn, and late afternoon depending on the sun, wind and air temp. It is definitly a fun time to be fishing. You can catch your fish using any of several different methods depending on the water conditions and the time of day.

There is no bettter month period than October 15 to November 15th. Wish there was only more time .

    October 15th Rooster Opener MN

October 17 Full Moon Trolling for Fatty Eyes 5 days each side of the full moon, with an occasional Hog Pike, Muskie, or Smallie who could argue .

The last week of October till Gun Opener is the best days to be on Stand with Bow in Hand looking for the Bruisers that are lurking for that first doe to come into cycle. Some of the best Bucks I have seen have been from 10am to 2 pm during this time. All that, with out the pressure of Gun Season upon us.

November 2nd During Primetime is the New Moon Phase. Less light for the Bucks and Does to feed on and in the past I have noticed they tend to stay out later in the morning trying to get their fill with the half hour of light before Sunrise. All this during peak time. I’M ALL IN

    November 4th Gun Opener

November 16 Full Moon Again Trolling for Eyes

In between all that still shooting Roosters during the afternoons.

HOW CAN YOU AKS FOR MORE?????????? THIS YEAR LOOKS LIKE ALL THINGS ARE FALLLING INTO PLACE

Might as well take the whole 32 days off

You ask me if I’m pumped up for September, you bet. But still waiting for that Magial Date fo October 15th. Now that might get me a little excited

She is probably right there next to me for the most of it, usually. She has gone back to school this year, so things maybe a little different this year. She has realized (I hope by now) that if in the Fall, I need to be able to do this otherwise I’m not very fun the rest of the year . This is the season I live for. Ask a few of the past or ex girlfriends what happens when they complain about me being gone in the Fall (That’s why a few of them are ex’s)

I’m with you, Rob. Pheasants, deer, and walleyes. Then add the cooler nights that make the little hairs on the back of my swollen neck stand up and you have the reason I still live in this part of the country.

I hear you Putz, I had a buddy line me up a job down on the Coast of Florida for a pot more money, house lined up, etc. But there is no way I could leave the upper Midwest for this very reason we are talking about. I would need 2 pots of money more and then I would think about it

You’re right, Bob. We hung in there until 10:00 on Sat on the north end sand but had to crawl our way home. The bite wasn’t worth the pounding we were taking. All in all, a slow fishing trip for us. A couple of walleyes from the sand, and some barely keeper perch from various rockpiles. Good luck to the full mooner’s next weekend. I can’t decide whether to go grouse hunting, fish the Croix, or come up there next weekend.

The three keepers we had saturday morning came off the shallow, shallow rocks on bobbers. 6 fow or less.

Water temps still to warm, 68-69 degrees. We didn’t boat a walleye trolling cranks either.

The perch and smallmouth are hungry though.
