I will be out this weekend. I just hope it doesn’t blow like it did last weekend. Kept me pretty close to shore.
August 24, 2005 at 2:45 pm #380014I hear that, I stayed close to shore on Sunday also . I did have a buddy go out Sunday in that wind and he said they bit the best they did all weekend . He ended up catching 15 eyes and was able to weigh 4 in the MTT tourney . See ya on the water.
August 24, 2005 at 2:56 pm #380016I’ll be on the south and west side this weekend had some good reliable reports from there on the smallies and eyes in the weeds, gonna give it a go!
probably chase the toothy’s in the am.August 24, 2005 at 6:41 pm #380053I’ll be out. I’ll probably split time between deep crankin and shallow bobbering.

August 24, 2005 at 7:13 pm #380060I have not and will not be out on the pond for quite some time. It was back in July my last time and do not see it happeneing to the weekend of the Septmeber full moon, but that is opening Deer Hunting, so I probably will not be out on the pond, till that Sunday night with some Po-dunk guide FORMERLY KNOWN AS H20
August 24, 2005 at 7:27 pm #380066Me “meat wagon” and “farm boy” are gonna be up there this weekend, hopefully out pulling boards around if the wind cooperates with us. If it is too windy where is a good place to stick close to shore right now?
August 24, 2005 at 8:24 pm #380091the south end bobber fishing has been good if the wind is up. Hennipin Island in 3-8′ of water, but you didn’t hear that from me ….Oh sure you did, I won’t be corkin when I can pull boards . The latest forcast calls for winds to be 5-10mph. Perfect for pulling boards

You just wait buddy! You’ll be whimpering for yo’ mama by sunrise!
August 25, 2005 at 2:28 am #380156I haven’t pulled boards a lot since I’ve been fishing alone a lot this year. I’ve also stayed shallow all year. Not many pictures but a very full freezer.
August 25, 2005 at 10:42 am #380186Trashman, I have a place at Fisherman’s Warf. See ya on the water.

August 25, 2005 at 1:10 pm #380203you must have a small freezer to only have 4 fish fit in it

August 25, 2005 at 3:20 pm #380251Just a gentle reminder here… there is no possession limit in MN. State limit is 6. If I have 6 in my freezer I cannot keep another limit on the water. That is poaching.
August 25, 2005 at 3:43 pm #380263Hey guys..I’m a 4th generation landowner on the lake, I am vey cognizant of ML special regs & I am not over my possession limit. Wife, daughters, son in law all have licenses & I have an Ontario lic also. I get a huge kick giving fish to older people who taught me a ton when I was young but who don’t fish any more due to mobility issues.
My point was that there has been a dood crank bite on rocks most of the summer; not to boast about having a bunch in the freezer.August 25, 2005 at 3:49 pm #380265And we appreciate you sharing your report with us. Guys get awfully protective of that lake you live on, and for good reason. Please don’t take offense from those curious about that part of your post… its one special lake and we all feel a sense of stewardship for the resource.
On another note… you running into any jumbo perch when trolling shallow? A couple falls back there was a dandy perch bite in 8′ – 10′ of water. If I’m going to eat fish, those yellows are my favorite.
August 25, 2005 at 4:01 pm #380273I understand. My great grandfather is the 1st name on our abstract & I am so fortunate to have the history & experiances & family there. II always ache to get back there when we close up on Thanksgiving.
Perch the best. I’m seeing some 8″ at the max, hitting cranks. That’s to small for me to clean. They are starting to come back & little ones are being caught off the reeds in the bay. Another couple of weeks & they should start up. A couple of grandkids really will have fun then. That’s when the anchor comes into use.August 25, 2005 at 4:33 pm #380287Thanks for the info. I’ll be up in 3 weeks so maybe my timing will be right.
August 25, 2005 at 5:18 pm #380299Blade-
I will be up this weekend fishing the south and west sides. I will be out on Friday morning chasing skis then smallies around lunch and eyes after that!
Wheew……….. that made me tire just typing itI didn’t mean to offend by my post, It was just misinterpreted on my part, I seem to be doing that more and more often lately must be getting edgy, fall is quickly approching and my mental clock is getting ready to kill things
I am staying at the Mille Lacs Lodge in Onamia, I will be in a red crestliner with a 90 honda
anyway maybe I run into you around lunch time and we can
August 25, 2005 at 9:52 pm #380347Bucky…I think you are saying you are staying at the MLL Hunting Lodge. As an old pointing dog trainer & trialer I still have the itch to bird hunt. Alas, where I live has been all developed & the good dogs either died, got old, or went home to their owners & I’ve not had the ambition to put together another string. Still keep a couple around for the genetics & will start breeding & training again. Retirement 1st though.
The plastics would be my choice for ‘skis. Al the 12″ to 14″ walleyes are prime gator prey. I’ll be throwing on rocks Sat. Green & sand Pro V 1900 wheel boat w/ Yammies on the back.
August 29, 2005 at 1:35 pm #380812well here is a quick report of the weekend
arrived on the lake around 3pm and fished cove bay for ski’s had two follows no takers..both were in the 40-45″ range then the wind started to really whip from the north so we anchored up on the rocks just to the east of cove in about 6′ of water. drop some floats and waited it out. we caught 4 smallies in 16-18″ and boated several small perch all less than 8″. we did manage to boat 5 eyes, 2 small guy around 12″ 2 18-19″ and one 24″ kept the 18&19 and fryed them up for breakfast Sat!
Sat morning fished dowm by the casino, 2 boats one fished shermans pt and into wigwam for skis, no takers but a couple nice northerns biggest was 36″ the other boat fished indian pt and saw nothing from 6-9 so we went out to shermans flat and did some taildancing, put 6 in the boat. by 11am! all were 18-21″ we trolled purple and clown, 150′ back purple being the best. we went along the eastern edge of shermans out to 7 & 8 mile flat and back. most fish were caught between the flats in 35 fow.
Saturday night 17 of us went out of the blue goose for a launch and put 38 fish in the boat keeping 20 between 16 & 21″ the launch captain was fishing the bug hatches in 28-32 FOW.
Sunday well to much on Sat leads to on sunday
thats all from me.August 29, 2005 at 2:55 pm #380824I was up with the Walleye-Brat and my parents on Sunday. We made a couple long trolling runs from NW to SE through the flats looking for some sign of life….only caught 2 small keepers and that was it. Marked a lot of fish out away from the flats from 20-26′ down but no takers. Switched up colors a few times both of the fish we got came on a Reef Runner, red hot tiger I think is the name. With 4 people in the boat we were able to cover a wide range of colors and I tried Tail Dancers and Reef Runners….nothing on the TDs.
All in all it was a nice day to be out and in the end Heidi had a couple fish to take to her parents who love walleye but just can’t get out fishing much.August 29, 2005 at 3:18 pm #380831Me and my sons were out Friday, Saturday and Sunday until noon. Each day we caught between 5-7 fish with a total of 6 between 19-21.75″ The rest were bigger. I never did find any color that dominated any other and it was a toss up between tail dancers and reef runners. The bite was a little slower than the last few weekends and I did not mark nearly as many fish or schools of bait . All in all it was a great way to end the season for us . Now the boat goes into the barn until May and the camo stuff comes out . Have a great fall fishing everyone.
