Was out again this weekend with my sons and did pretty good . Ended up with 21 fish coming to the boat 7 of those under 22″ . Also had a lot of lost fish, either right after the hook up or 20-30′ from the boat. Changed hooks and didn’t seem to matter . Anyone else having this issue? I also have not caught on over 28″ this year. Over a hundred fish this summer on boards and I can’t break 28″ Good luck to all, the cranks are still working.

Sounds like a pretty good weekend. Me and my bro-inlaw have also done really good this summer and we are stuck at about 27″ that his wife caught (of course) but no complaints we have had a really fun season so far. Nice report.

No we weren’t able to make it up this last weekend but we are planning on going up the weekend of the 27th, and are planning on hitting the boards, hopefully it’ll still be going good then. You know I was thinking about the problem you were having with the hook sets, I wonder if the aggresivenes of the fish this year has something to do with that, they have been a lot more aggresive this year it seems like.

I’ll be up the next 2 weekends working the boards , then it’s goose camp . I am going to try some triple grip hooks this weekend. Hopefully that will help. You are right though, some of the fish I have caught this year have inhaled the entire taildancer with just the bill sticking out of there mouth . Makes for a very difficult release…got to have a good hook cutter handy.

Hook sets have been a problem for me as well this year compared to previous years. I don’t know if it’s related to the treble hooks on the deep tail dancers or not. I too have sharpened these hooks over and over again, put on different hooks and still had similar results.

Maybe it’s speed related…. This year I’m trolling slower (1.8 – 2.2 mph) than previous years (2.0 – 2.7 mph) and this may have something to do with it.

In regard to your big fish question, we’ve been fortunate this year to catch four 28 inchers and one 28.5 incher. All were released, so they should be bigger the next time someone catches them! Deepthunderticks (old style) caught 2 and deep taildancers the other 3.

I won’t be able to make it up there this weekend but will be trollin again on the 25th.

Congrats T-Bone on your weekend of fishing!
