The walleye bite is still going but not on fire as in the previous couple of months. Our launch went out on friday from 6-10 p.m. and got 14 walleyes. kept 12 eyes’ and 2 big perch. we fished just north/east of hennipen island in 28 fow. we did end up moving out of there and heasing out to hawkbill reef and getting the rest. the best rig was accually a crawler under a bobber with a 1/16 ounce yellow jig with a green eye. other launches around the lake did about the same. it was a pretty slow bite on friday. On saturday i had another launch go out from 6-10 p.m. we boated 13 walleyes and kept nine. biggest was a 21.75″ walleye. we also got a 21.5 incher too. otherwise all the eyes’ that we kept were inbetween 13″-14.5″. we also kept 4 perch inbetween 12″-14″. this time most the eyes’ came on leeches under a bobber. we fished on popes,graveyard,2 mile, and some humps on the north west side of hennipen island. it was a slow bite for ud but another launch that went out from our place landed 39 walleyes.
Muskie- the muskie bite is still to get going. lots of people going out and not even seeing a fish. Steve Sapinaiak with Preditor guide service had a client land a 53″ ski’ on wednesday morning. that is the last fish that his outfit has landed. in two days they have only raised 2 fish. very slow. we need the water temp is cool down just a little. with the temp. being so high these big fish are very delicate in the water and are more prone to not making it after a long hard fight. i reccommend that if you do catch one of these fish take the hooks out in the water and dont take the fish out of the water. if you must take a picture please leave the fish in the net and take a couple like that. we dont want these big girls floating.
Pike- the pike bite is picking up. not many huge ones being caught. deeper water is proving itself to be the best right now with such a high surface temp. spoons and small bucktails are working as of late.
Smallmouth- Bite is going pretty strong. good places to start are off of hawkbill point. the bass are moving deeper into 8-10 fow. on the rock reefs. put on a tube or shad rap. and expect to catch a few of them.
tight lines everyone and i will post another update next weekend.
