Was on the lake by 6:30am went out of Red Door on the Northside. Picked up a 17″ & 12″ trolling into the wind with the bow mount. I was rigged with a 10ft snell with a red hook then the wind picked up out of the south and the 4fters made it to hard for me and my 1650 so I retreated to shore at 8am
trailered down to the Isle bay lauch and gave the smallmouth thing a try and worked the shore line from isle to big point. 3 fish to show for it
but they were nice fish 2 @17″ and on 16″
was tossing tubes and 3″ husky jerks up to the banks and boulder points. the fish I did catch were in 4-6 ft.
I didn’t see to many beds that were occupied. Stopped at Macs Twin for a burger at noon and ran into the DNR. they were doing the electroshocking for smallies! they only had 30 for the day. mostly males, water temp was too cold for the girls yet.
the DNR told me that this year should be the year for the state record to come since the spawn is so late. according to them a 22″ female stuffed with eggs could take the record.
well after the dismal news from the DNR I went back to eye fishing.
Worked the graveyard and banna reef drifting with a 10ft plain red hook snell again. Picked up 2 more little guys 13″& 14″ the 14″ went in the tub with the 17 from earlier.
the wind died down and I trailered up to Hunters point at 5pm
the wind was really low so I flew out to the boot. were I fished for an hour with nothing to show for. marked lots of fish pn the graph. ( which is sweet!! lcx 17 with nav chip! ) off the edges of the flat but no takers.
flew back into agate reef for the rest of the night and picked up 4 more. 23″, 22″ 16″ & 19″. my 19″ came at 8:30 so I threw it in the tank and headed home!
all in all it was a beauty of a day
fishing could have been better but it could have been worse to.
