    Re: the over turned boat:
I am the boat owners father.
There were three (3) persons in the boat NOT 4
the boat is a 2003 Smoker Craft 165 its not 20′ long
The Lakes Gas Truck was brought up there by my brother in law not a friend
The three people in the boat were my two (2) sons and one (1) friend.
and yes the plug was in the boat when I pulled it into shore on Saturday morning 5-20-05
They do think that the live well main line under the floor broke? We are waiting for the insurance company to do an invenstigation on the boat to see what happened.
Its looks like at this point that they are going to total it!
I would like to thank the guys’ that pulled my boys and their friend out of the water that night. without their help someone would have drowned as their life vests would not hold them above the water due to the heavy clothing and rain gear.
George at Hunters Point was also a great help that night and the following day.
let me know if anyone needs any more accurate info.
    thanks

Glad to hear everyone made it to shore safely. It is easy to poke fun of the situation after all involved is safe. This was a serious situation considering the conditions (night, rain, cold, etc)that sounds like could happen to any of us. Jon J. made a good point about the auto bilge. Mine was constantly coming on yesterday with the waves cresting over the back of my Crestliner. Not sure if this Smokercraft had one????

    Sunkinboat!

Glad to hear you guys made it out ok. Thank God for your survival!!!

This story reminds of a Lac Seul house boat trip I did about 5 years ago. My buddy brought up his new Ranger Cherookee. One evening, with calm, clear skies, we decided to go out for a little night bobber fishing. We only went out about 100 yards from the house boat to a small reef and anchored up. There were 3 of us. These Cherokee’s have a large back deck, so the 3 of us sat back there, on coolers of beverages, and bobber fished. After about 6 hours of catching nothing, but having a great time, talking about the good things in life……we noticed about 1 foot of water on the floor of the boat!!!!! We were SINKING!!!! My buddy who owned the boat, lifted the battery compartment door and seen the water was about an inch from the battery terminals. He flipped on the bilge pump and we went to the front of the boat to balance it out. The water pumped and pumped and pumped out. We found the water was seeping in through the back, and into hole where the motor control cables pass through.

Being a calm night with zero wind and waves, and making a bad choice of drinking on the water allowed this to happen without us noticing…..

    We learned a valuable lesson!!!

    Kaleb;
Was this post directed at me? My post was refering to an incident that I had, with water seeping in, similar to yours. I wasn’t refering to you, or your party drinking in the boat.

Your right, sorry about that, I guess I should have known better than to post a report from a guy that was sitting in a bar all night.

sorry again, the most important part is that everyone was safe and nobody got hurt.

    Good Luck on the pond
