We will have more detail later today on our 2005 fishing opener on Mille Lacs.

Saturday was a brutal day to say the least……Hook and I caught a few fish bobber fishing on a shallow reef on the eastside. Our morning started at 4:30am and by day break had taken an interesting twist! As the daylight was showing its face Hook saw what we first thought was a floating bog…..with a little more light we could see it was a boat floating upside down. I called 911 to report it and found out that two men had been pulled from the water earlier. Both were allright…….not sure of all the details.

I have to go to work now………I’ll have more tonite, and I’m sure more others will add their info!!!

It was a nasty Saturday-Saturday night ordeal!!!And sure Sunday afternoon is all sunshine

I am glad the fisherman are OK.

How would you like to be running across the lake and hit that.

    Ron,

That was exactly what we were thinking. We motored up on the reef and made a couple passes looking for fish and never saw it in the dark. We must of trolled within 50 feet of it before dawn and afterwards kept saying what it would of done to us if we hit it on plane!

We were very surprised that it was in the water so long before being towed off.

Heard these 2 guys went out without a plug in the boat….they “fell asleep” and woke up to wet feet. They called 911 and there was told there was no water patrol in the area and to hang on (to what?). Luckily they screamed at a passing boat who pulled them out.

My report- 17.5″ smallie pulling a rap on the east side rocks early saturday morning then a 17″ walleye slip bobbering on rocks. Missed on hit on the north sand. Saw a few dandies pulled in but not many nets up. Very, very slow and COLD. Fish cleaning house buckets were pretty empty Sunday.

    Need some stable warm weather.

We heard the same thing, one of our group was talking to the owner at Hunter’s when they pulled it in.

Cold, Wet, Windy. There, that’s my report!

Ok, ok…. A few fish made their way into my boat. All were over the 20 inch keeper slot. Here is a shot of one taken between the rain squalls. I’m looking a little beat up to say the least here.

Quote of the week…. “Man, I can take two of the three no problem, but when you mix the Rain, Wind and Cold – That Sucks!”

Could you tell what kind of boat that was? Looks to be an I/O. Just curious.

Nice background! Now we know EXACTLY where you were fishing!
Notice how Bobs whiskers match the color of the fish? Coincidence? I think not! I always knew Bob was part walleye!

Good job guys!! Nice cathes. That weather looked brutal. As I walked from shopping mall to shopping mall with my little boy, all I could think about was, I am glad I was not out on the water…..well maybe a small part of me wished I was out there. But much better days ahead.

Any story from the survivors of the abandoned boat? Any sign on the bottom of the boat of a rockpile collision?

From what we can gather, they were anchored on 3/4 Bar on Lakeside Reef. Woke up to find their feet wet, and called for help. The waves and wind must have combined to swamp it at some point. Bummer!

We spent 4 hours on the water Sat morning, only fishing for about 1 of them. A locked up life jacket, a search for our fishing partners, a radio that would only transmit and not receive on any channel higher than 76, and an anchor that wouldn’t hold in the high waves did our fishing in for that day. Sunday we started connecting after the wind went down a bit around 11:00, but all were too big for the bucket. These are pics of very healthy 23 and 25″ers.

I have to solder my antennae connections better on my new radio. I fiddled around with it, and my reception improved. Might be something to look at…

The more people that I have talked with…..say the same thing! Why was that boat left in that state (anchored up-side down) for that many hours?

    Very bad………

Hook and I caught few fish……but the quality was sure there!!

This walleye was around 25-26 inches. We also had a few around 21-22 inches, nice healthy looking fish.

This is another picture of the boat from where Hook and I were fishing.

Do you think you might miss it floating in the water and hit it?

Add wind and rain to limit the visability. Most people would hit it.
