Made the first road trip of the open water season up to the big pond. Between getting the camper opened up, running errands and visiting with friends who I hadn’t seen since fall, I did manage to get on the water for a few hours Sunday.

Joining me for the morning trip was Tim “Hooks” Hukriede. The plan was to try and locate a few Isle Bay crappies. However, the reports we were hearing were the crappies were biting in the evenings….. Oh well we can just go out and see what a couple of guys can figure out!

After about 45 minutes of tossing a hook, bobber and minnow into likely areas, we stumbled onto a school of perch. That one spot kept us busy for a couple hours and produced 15 keeper size perch for the table tonight!

Nice to be back on Mille Lacs and I can’t wait for the opener.

WOW!!! Those are some FAT Perch. I’m very glad to see you made it out and had some luck on Mille Lacs. It’s nice to see Hooks out too.

Thanks Jon for letting me tag along. That’s a sweet little river rig you got there!
We had fun with some good laughs.
I though Jon was damn near going to fall out of the boat when what we think was a huge carp surfaced right next to the boat!
I’m inclined to maybe try Isle bay again this weekend, I think Tuck and the Lovely Miss Debra may be up this weekend to visit, and boys will be boys.

Jon and I also heard of perch being had on three mile too!

That’s it. This post put me over the edge. The boat has to make the trip. Hook told me you guys where going out when I arrived Saturday night while having a few beers at the fire ring. I woke up Sunday morning and grabbed my coffee and went out on the deck and wondered how you guys where doing? What time did you hit the water?

Well, it was sunday, and after Jon gave his Surmon it was about 8:30.
The prayer he said was somethin, somethin, and Lord please keep the prop outta the rocks! LOL

All I can say is MMMMM MMM MM M MMMMMM. Yum. Nothing better than a fresh perch filet! I’m sure a few of us could scrape up enough for a fish fry next weekend.

Whatever it was swimming by the boat it was huge. Had eyes the size of silver dollars! Not sure if it was me or the fish who was most startled. Probably been a while since she swam under a boat – LOL! Would have been no match for 4lb line that’s for sure.

Doug, we got on the water about 9am and were off by 1pm. Plenty of action once we got on them with a bunch of throw backs. All perch, nothing else was in there. I think it would be fun to make an evening trip and try to crack a few of those mogo crappies….. ahhh, so many fish, so little time……

Was it a Ski? They like to come in when the Perch are shallow..

Jon wasn’t sure, all I caught was the boil at the end, but by the look on Jon’s face it was big!
