Liberty Beach sale pending!

    I have been hearing some about the possible sale of Liberty Beach Resort on the eastside of Mille Lacs Lake. Today I heard from a reliable source that the Minnesota DNR has purchased the southern half of the property on which the boat harbor is. Talk is that they plan to open another public landing at this location.
    The Lodge/Bar has also been sold to a privite party from the area. Final details are yet to be made, but sounds like a done deal.

    I now wonder what will happen with the ice house business? Will the new owner of the Lodge/Bar continue to run an ice fishing business or will the houses move to other areas of the lake?

    Good news about a new public access on the east side.

    A protected one even better.

    I would assume that it wouldn’t be open forthis year though.

    I wonder if the new owners will keep up with the Liberty Beach Perch tourney or not. This year was the 22nd Annual. I can remember going to them when I was just a little kid. I guess only time will tell.

    This is just a rumor but I heard before they wanted to keep the ice bussiness.

    If they know how much profit there is in that perch contest they will have it.$15000 – $20000 in one day not bad

    Yes Marty plans on running the Ice house business next year,and I would guess the Perch extravaganza will continue.
    They are both cash cows…

    Won’t be the same going in there and not seeing Frank sitting at the bar.
    Lots of fond memories from Liberty Beach. First time I was up to Mille Lacs I met him at a gas station in Isle, October ’94. He told us to come up to his place and launch. Then he pointed us to fish, that was the beginning of the Mille Lacs October full moon fever for me!

    Yes he did!!!
    That was before I had a GPS. We just took a map and a compass bearing and headed out into the lake.
    And we caught fish.

    In the early 80’s through early 90’s 3 mile reef was kicking out some dandy fish. It still will on an occasion!
