Here is a little update from our meeting last night. The group voted to keep the walleye limit the same as last year. The group and the DNR were in agreement on this for once.

There was much discussion about the netting practices of the Tribe in regards the release of Northern Pike. The DNR is well aware of the issue and it will be getting close attention this spring.

Jack Dunn also brought up the topic of changes to the current size limit on Muskie. Most members of the input group would like to see Mille Lacs disignated as a trophy Musky lake with a 48″ minimum. I will be posting this in the Muskie forum, so post your comment there on this issue.

In all it was a very good meeting. The 2002 & 2003 year classes of walleye are both in very good shape and should provide some really good angling in the near future.

Did the vote to remain the same also include the option to open the slot to 22″ on July 15th?

Yes, Dino. The vote was that the limits and slot changes remain the same with the July increase in size.

Also, we discussed keeping the walleye season open through the end of February each year. It sounds as though this may happen and it may be for the entire state.
