This will be the first time I have ice fished Mille Lacs this coming weekend and I was wondering if someone could point us in the right direction for some walleye(places, lures, time of day).Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks Don

    hi Don,
for your first time, it would be a very good idea to go out from a resort that has houses all over their areas. a good outfit can get you started in the right direction and set you up. I know some of our members from ML will make some good suggestions on Resorts. if the weather gets warmer than what we have had, the bite should be picking up. Good luck, take your camera, and report back after your trip. Jack..

Wildfan, What area of the lake will you be heading? I’m on the eastside on Picard Point, just north of Hunters Point Resort.

Bobber,I haven’t picked out a point yet.We have a cabin in olglive,25 miles south of Mille Lacs.I have iced fished for many years but never Mille Lacs.I will be going out with a flip over clam Yukon with my brother (who has iced fished maybe 3 times in his life) and I was hoping to get into a few walleyes/perch/or whatever bites. We both live in the rochester area and did well on Mille Lacs this spring out of Isle.Any help on location/times/lures etc.would be helpfull. Not looking for any Xs on the ice, just some ideas. We will coming up sometime on friday and be staying the weekend.
    Thanks Don

Hunters Point Resort on the eastside of Mille Lacs has a road out to the mud flats. I would suggest fishing either the Boot flat or Fishers flat. When you pay your access they will tell you where their road might end. The lake does have some snow now and will limit your travel.
I would fish off the flat during the day and at around 2-3 pm move up on top of the flat. Try jigging a spoon with just a minnow head. If you have a flasher, take the time and watch for the fish near the bottom. The walleye have been running on the small size from 10-14 inches with a few bigger ones mixed in.

    Good luck
