I went there solo Wednesday night on another last minute call to go and got 8 in 6 hours. I fished the west side and it was a very calm night on the Pond. If the wind blew and put a ripple on the water, the fish bit. No wind, no fish! I tried the sand, gravel, weed transistions but got nothing. I went over to the rocks and got fish in 8 fow. the hot lure taking all but one fish was the Clown HJ 12. The fire Tiger got the other fish. I had 120′ of line out. The largest one taped out at 25.5″ and the smallest was a 14.5″. The bulk of them were 22 to 24″. I might have to try the East Side Rocks if I make it out again????????

I hope this helps anyone thinking of heading out there!

Thanks for the report Lip Ripper! Hoping to make 1 last trip up to the Big Bond before ice up. What was the water temperature? Also, what trolling speed was best for you? I would think that your best trolling speed would have been very slow. Thanks for sharing.

The water temp was between 41 and 42 degrees. 1.2 to 1.4 mph seemed to work best for me with long pauses. Good Luck.

Thanks for the reports and information guys. With a couple of cold nights coming up I am going to be watching the weather reports very closely. I am hoping that the water temperature is warm enough to prevent a partial freeze up from happening in the bays etc. If anyone hears about any updates about boat ramp or lake conditions in the next couple of days then please post them. If we make it up to Mille Lacs I will post a report when we get back. Thanks again.

No ice around my home area on the eastside. The boat harbor is wide open. The weather report calls for lower temps the next few days… I’ll keep an eye out and report if I see some ice starting. As of lately it’s been warmer near the lake , than say just north in Aitkin. We need some cold and wind to stir the big pond up a bit, and get it ready to freeze! Mille Lacs is a fairly shallow lake and with some wind and cold it can lower the water temperature very quickly.

I was thinking of going this weekend but with temps forcast to be in the single digets by wednseday nite it is not lookin’ good. Im onto a good bluegill bite here in the cities with an occasional eye or bass, so all is not lost

Bobber, Hooks, keep us posted please. I can drag Winston and Jim up there for a little deer sausage cooking and fishing on the ice.
