I finally made it to Mille Lacs Sat night to give the night bite a shot…I know I know….what took me so long.
Walleye-brat and I hit the water about 4 and made our way to Pikes point and started trolling south through St Albans bay. We managed one very fat 23 incher about 6:30 towards the middle/south end of St Albans…that ended up being our only fish.
We stuck it out until 10 without another hook up. There were a couple other boats out and it sounded like it was slow for everyone. Best I heard was a guy that had gotten 4 down in front of the Casino….funny thing…I talked to him in St Albans so he must not have had much confidence in his first spot.
We trolled huskys and rougues, the fish we got came on a black/gold/orange #12 husky. We had two other very quick very short hits on that one in the next half hour and then we never saw any other action. I left that color on and went through a rainbow of different colors and sizes on the other rod with not even a tap.
I met IDA member Hextap at the Indian point landing about 11 when we got in there. He had 2 people with him and had about the same experience…slow. It was a great night to be out except for the wind. I was actually able to get WCCO so I could listen to the Gopher hockey game and the sweep of the Badgers.
If anyone out there heard the MN rouser….yeah that was me.
    Good luck on the water.

John was nice to meet you up there and to bad fishing wasn’t better Friday night was much better but if we all had a dollor for evertime we heard ” You should have been here yesterday” we wouldn’t need to work and we would be there everyday. I will try to get member Fish on a.k.a. Steve to post our pics from friday. Dont let this trip be the only one to make up your mind on how the lake is over all if ya ever need someone to go with ya send me a P.M. and we can see what we can do.

I was out with two buddies and we went out of the casino access. We were on the water at quarter to 6 and got a 23″ at about 6:15. We took a couple of more long passes without anything and so we headed to Indian Point about 10Pm.

On our first pass out I had on and then lost a very large fish. Heading back to the point, I brought in a 25″er. On the next pass in Cyberfish got a 26″ and on our last full pass our buddy Dave Villa got the biggest walleye of his life, 26.5″ over 7lbs, maybe even an 8. Unfortunatly with that fish, it was time for those boys to go in as it was coming up on midnight. We got 3 of the fish on a HJ12 Firetiger, and the other on a Bomber Excaliber Long A Firetiger.

Hextap…same goes for you…if you are ever looking for a warm body to fill a seat and keep you company shoot me a PM.

Basspastor….were you one of the boats right out in front of the indian point access?? I think there were 4-5 boats in there when Walleye-brat and I got back there. I thought about making a pass or 2 in there but we had a family party in Owatonna today and we figured being on the lake all night wasn’t going to be conducive to being socialable today.

Not sure what you mean by the Indian Point access. Do you mean the Public Access North of Indian Point (aka Casino Access) or somewhere else? We fished Sha Bosh Kung from that access to Sherman’s Point and then on Indian Point.

I may fish a little tomorrow at dusk before the Vikings game and I will be out for sure on Tues. Night.

    Hex,

Now that John has a girlfriend, the warm body comment shouldn’t scare you off. In his single days, he had a tendency to hug and stuff after a fish. It was the stuff that scared me the most.

You loved every minute of it waterfowler….you know you did.

Basspastor…yes that access just north of the casino is the one I refer to as indian point…it is in the bay more so I guess. We probably should have tried the bay there before we left too…oh well…next time.

Thanks for the report on the West side guys. Saterday my brother and I were out on the north side. Not a great bite, but consisent enought to keep it interesting is how I would describe it. We caught 10 fish with another 5 that we had on and lost. Biggest was 29″ 10.4lbs on the digital scale (I am having my dad help me figure out how to get a picture to post; I keep getting an “exceeded 100k storage message”). Of note is that we traditionally fish very big baits (#13 raps, & jointed) when the water temp is below 45 degrees in fall, but we could not get bit on anthing bigger than a #5 shad rap. All fish came on “mini” baits, majority on fire tiger, two on chrome and blue. I am not sure if it is the abundant forage, or some other factor, but the fish this fall sure seem to want smaller baits on some nights. That’s the update from the north side of the pond. Good fishing, and God Bless.

Where(roughly) on the north end were you?? Out of Garrison on the west or Malmo on the east or somewhere in between. That was my first night trip so I am a total rookie at the night troll.

We have a milk run from east of Knox Point to south of Pike’s point. All of our fish came to the west of Myr Mar. We caught fish in weed to gravel transitions with some pure gravel fish. Depths were 3.5 to 7 feet.
