I got to the ramp about 5:30 on Nov 1st, there wasn’t a rig in Casino access lot. As I was getting ready to launch, I was a bit surprized to see another guy pull in to lot; The guy was Steve Dezurik of Dezurik’s Guide Service and he was doing some of his last ML guiding of the year. We talked for a bit; my plan was to head out and do my usual trolling of Indian Point. Steve was kind enough to offer me a suggestion if that didn’t work for me. He’s been hitting the fish pretty good and was confident I could get some in the area he suggested. He even showed me his hot lure this fall.

We both launched. While I headed out Steve was waiting for his clients to show. I then realized I forgot to grab my flashlight out of the truck, and I also noticed that my seat was wobbly. When I got back in, I found out that I left my flashlight at home, that the backlight on my Magellan GPS had gone out and couple of bolts came out of the bottom of my seat, not a great start to the night. Steve’s clients hadn’t shown up yet and he asked me what was up as I was skrewing in the bolts that came loose. I told him about the flashlight and GPS. Steve was kind enough to borrow me one of his head lamps so I didn’t have to just rely on my running lights to see.

I headed out to Indian and did about 5 passes but with no moonlight it just wasn’t happening, plus it was starting to get a little rough and I don’t have a big water boat so I left there and went to where Steve suggested. Sure enough his spot produced 4 Keepers, a 23″ and 4 dropped fish with maybe a couple of other quick hits that didn’t hook up at all.

I was making my last pass back when I saw Steve heading in and so him back at the ramp and gave him the headlamp back. His boat did better than me in both size and numbers, but I got a limit of eaters and really blew it with the one’s I lost.

When I was trailering Steve even helped me crank up the boat. He was not my guide, but he sure acted like it. I’d recommend him highly to anyone. Thanks for all the help!

Well BP, it doesn’t surprise me. I think you met one of the nicest guys around. He, along with the other staff members are a huge reason this place is such a great success. They have always been willing to share info with me whenever I bump into them at the dock.

I got to spend the evening with them the other night over some cold ones because the weather didn’t permit us on the lake. It’s amazing the knowledge that can be soaked up from these guys.

Congrats on the fish, I love fishing the pond at night in the fall!!!

    Basspastor,
This is not a sales pitch. Steve is the real deal.

I had the pleasure of going out with Steve about a week ago, if you go to his last ML report 10-24-04, the guy holding the 30 incher is me! In steve’s boat! He was a tremendous pool of knowledge and a great guy to be in the boat with. Even though I had just met him it seemed like I was fishing with a good friend I have known my whole life. It does not suprise me that steve gave you a hand at the landing. I still owe him a waterproof bag that I had to put my trophy in to take home. Steve should be a roll model that all anglers should follow.
Great season every body, stay safe and on the dry side of the ice this winter.

    basspastor,

Good to meet you the other night and welcome to the site here at IDA. We called it a night early due to one of the guys had to get home to bed for work the next morning. The bite was not hot and heavy for us right off the get go, but things shaped up good after we moved to spot B.

    Glad you caught some fish!

You will like it here, a bunch of really great guys….friendships that will last a lifetime!

Take Care and we will see you out there in the coming week possibly!

I was out all night on election night. I got to the Casino Ramp straitaway after voting at about 6:30PM. I was surprized to see about 6 rigs in the lot and they all plus more seemed to be trolling right out front. The fishing was slow and I just couldn’t dial em in. I would get about one hit per two passes and I was making long trolling runs. I would work an area after getting bit, but that didn’t work, all my bites were scattered around.

At 2AM I headed out to Indian Point under what seemed like perfect conditions, Good moon and Chop. On the first pass out my rod buckled good off the tip of the point. As I got it closer I was a bit confused as that the rod was straining good but there were no head shakes or running. I was amazed when I pulled in not a fish, but a huge clump of weeds that must have been free floating through the lake. I trolled the point 4 passes with nothing which really surprized me, I thought I was marking activity. I headed back north where it was calmer.

Just before I stared another run I checked my stick bait. Sure enough the stupid thing was tracking left. Probably the whole time I was running Indian with a lure that had gotten out of tune.

I managed to get only 5 and a super fat 28″ Pike with a couple of misses. It was a good time though and the moon rise and stars where nice.
