I caught these these smallies this summer out on the big pond. Finally got my computer up and running so I could resize the pics. Sliderfishn took me out and showed me some spots and techniques, oh yeah, and we caught lots of fish. It is safe to say that my first time fishing for smallies will not be my last.

The first is a 16.5″ and the second is a 18.5″ smallie.

There are no smallies in that lake so please stop telling everyone that. They looked bigger in person. Good luck in school and give me a shout when you are in town. We will some fish.

Your right Slider. We caught the same couple of fish over and over again. I am sure they were the only two smallies in the lake. Lip Ripper, if I ever call myself Dr. Bass please shoot me.
Honestly, those brutes are a blast and I will be out there them again.

We caught those same two a couple times as well. you’d think they’d be plenty tired after all that exercise…. lol

Nice fish guys. All I could think about while I was up there was catching these bass on a fly rod. I’m going to bring my moth balled long rod next year and see if I still remember how to cast the darn thing.

    H2O,
My father uses his fly rod every time that we are on that lake. He stopped bring his spinning rods with him 2 years ago. They are a blast on poppers.

I get all jittery at the thought of a great top water bite on those big smallmouth. Doing it with the flyrod would be just that much better. I don’t have the time to tie flies… where does your father buy his poppers n’ chuggers and such?

Sorry that it took so long for a reply. Trying to get the dog and myself into shape for hunting season plus two little kids, no time for it all. My father gets some of his flies from Umpqua as he is on their Pro Staff but also from Chris at The Fly Anglers in Fridley. But for the most part he ties him own. Next time I am up at his house I will get some and see if the barter system still works
