What are you planning on trolling weeds or rock or both?

I’m pumped! This is the weekend I always start into the night bite.

Lights are in the boat and floods plugged in!

I tried to get an early jump on the bite…trolled for just two hours on Sunday night…only caught one 22″. Might make it back for one night this weekend.

Pretty slow on the east side. Out till 1 am both Friday and Saturday. Biggest fish was a 21.5, but weighed out to an impressive 3.7 lbs. Beautiful moonrise Saturday.

Anyone else? Didn’t see a lot of boats out there……

I ski fished the north side, then went to the south side…….

Started the morning on the Garrison break. Casted for awhile with no results, then trolled the break……….again, nothing…….

Went to MyrMar reef, started trolling. I was running a Jake, my buddy ran a funky chicken. I boated a mid 20″ pike. So, we started casting the area. Raised a solid 50″, fat fish 5 times to the boat, but couldn’t get her to bite. She came in a white bucktail the first time, then brought her back in on a yellow bucktail…….Then casted a bulldawg for a toss back lure……..She followed, but had a serious case of lock jaw……..

Trolled the Wealthwood break from west to east. Had a hard hit, only to find a bit of lip on a hook……..no fish…..Stopped just past Wealthwood and casted the whole break going to the end of it heading west…….Raised a mid 40″s fish with a reefhawg……….lockjaw………Buddy casted black hair with a red blade………No dice……….

Wind picked up, so we pulled out and launched out of isle…….
    Went to Spider Is.
Caught a high 20″ pike on a custom made spinner bait……..My personal favorite that only cost $2 to make and has accounted for more muskies than any other of my baits……..

Then caught a mid 30″ pike on a Jake to the east of Spider at the rock reef………My buddy had the drag screaming on a big fish with hair……….but lost it……..

Worked other areas around Twin Bay, but no dice………

I trolled both Thursday and Saturday nights….Thursday was slow….we caught 9 walleyes between 10 and 12 inches….one of the 10 inchers was even caught on a #14 Husky Jerk…Saturday night was better….fished all night and had to battle some thick fog in the morning….caught 20 with 11 of them being less than 13 inches….big fish of the night was a 28″…someday I’ll get a digital camera to share the pics.

Welcome aboard j!! What colors worked best for you guys this weekend? Any preference to one pattern over another?

Best colors seemed to be clown, blue/silver, and firetiger..best depths..anywhere between 3 and 11 feet….seemed it was important to cover a lot of water…would find active pockets which would produce 3 or 4 fish and then would have to move again….pulled #11 and #13 floaters, #14 Husky Jerks, and #5 Jointed Raps….all seemed to produce fish depending on the targeted depth….most effective speed was 2.2 to 2.7 depending on the choice of raps

Jon, you been pulling blades at all? I’m planning on blading this weekend in the early am.

Yes. But the little perch are a pain in the butt to deal with. Can’t say I worked them very hard. Only about an hour last weekend.

Might be a good time to try some of those berkley gulp crawlers or similar. Anyone tried this on the pond recently? I know back during the bite of the century guys pulling blades went this route (not to avoid the perch, that certainly wasn’t the issue that year) but more out of convenience than anything and it worked wonderfully well for them.

    Jon,
It must have been just you and I left on the East side at 1am on Sat. night. That is the time that we quit. We were only able to boat one that was a fat 22″. I really expected it to be better. We trolled our butts off from Agate bay/reef to Hunters Point and a little beyond. Heard of a couple being caught over the radio, but that was about it. There were a lot of boats out early in the darkness, but it didn’t take them long to call it quits either. I measured the temp at about 64 degrees. Trolled #10s,12s, and 14 Husky Jerks at any where from 1.5 to 2.5 mph. We mainly cruised the rocks along the shoreline in 6 to 12 ft. Judging from a couple of other posts here, I must have been doing something wrong!!! Oh well, I plan on going back up in another couple of weeks. We will give’em hell then!

I was out last night in the fog from 9-1 and between the 2 of us we caught 14 walleyes and 1 slimer.Bigest fish was a very fat 26 incher and 7 fish from 14-21 and the rest were small. We kept 4 fish and released the rest.Fished the east side rock with #5 shad raps in 8-15 FOW.Bright colors produced the best Firetiger,Clown,Blue Silver.Headed back up tonight to try it again.
