Did you guys catch any fish???

I couldn’t keep the Perch off my hooks. LOL. Slider did manage a 19.75″ Smallie. What a football!

The winds was NASTY but everyone fished and caught a few bass.

Thursday was very good to Blue and I. We ran around to some of our favorite spots and seemed to have things going our way. Blue even stated how nice it was to have “everything dialed in” so early on in the trip. We later reflected on this statement… with the irony causing some half-hearted chuckling and head shaking.

Thursday we fished the west side from Sherman south to Indian and found fish at every spot we fished. Our first 2 or 3 fish smashed top water with our 2 second fish of the trip, a 19″+ dandy, that came completely out of the water and went butt over noggin with the chugger. We also caught fish on tubes and cranks. White and pumpkin with white tips on the tentacles worked the best along with # 4 and #5 rattlin fat raps in craw patterns. We quit about an hour before sun down figuring we would have 3 fantastic days ahead of us.

Friday AM was DARN cold and windy. We started out of the west side and worked south east and found things a bit slow going. We eventually found cooperative fish on some reefs around Cove… and then the winds came. The waves were coming into the reefs on the south end to such a degree that we were forced to abandone the electric bow mount and to hold on them with an anchor. Then 2. And finally we strung 3 heavy river anchors in a series that totalled over 60 lbs in weight. We couldn’t hold our ground and retreated back to the north and west. While we were on these reefs we had some easy fish on crankbaits. Once we left we never caught another fish on an active presentation the rest of the weekend.

The winds rarely allowed us to fish where and when we wanted for the rest of the trip. We did have a couple lulls in the wind on Sunday which allowed us to sneak over to Upper Twin where we had good fish going earlier in the trip. Bass were not to be found but we caught 2 walleyes in 3′ of water on tubes… the largest going 23″.

Hopefully some of the others will stop in and share some of their findings from the weekend. Photos to follow as I get them off the camera.

I was a couple miles away just east of Aitkin, even on a 150 acre lake, we got blown around pretty bad. Really busy at work today but I will be posting a bass report tommorrow A.M.. One other thing to keep a heads up for… My guide partner Bob Bowman (MUSKIES) had a fantastic trip up to the Cass/Leech/Bemidji area this weekend, including a 50.5 inch musky. I will try to get that out tommorrow as well.

It was great meeting a few new faces and seeing a couple old ones too!

sure would have been to try and get up there, but just couldn’t that weekend. wind is a problem when it is pounding into an area you want to fish. can’t wait to see a few more pictures when they are available.

Jon & Dino surprised us all with the fish fry! I know Blue and I were thinking we’d be having a wharf burger but the spread these guys put on was top notch. Thanks you two… and to everyone else for showing up and making for a very good time.
