The smallie bite went from good (for us) on Thursday, slowed some on Friday after the first cold night and got down right tough on saturday and Sunday. The wind was relentless and just got down right OLD. I would have said a thank you for those same conditions if we were after the walleyes but casting light weight plastics in 2′ – 3′ waves for 3 days saps anyone’s patience. We could not put together a crank bait bite for these smallies which would have made life so much easier given the conditions. We did talk to and see some people getting in some decent walleye action trolling cranks in 12′ – 14′ of water and we caught a couple walleyes pitching plastics for the bass. Decent numbers of walleyes came from the Rocky Reef area and from the Twin Islands area. Tuck put together a decent bunch of walleyes and big perch pulling jointeds north of Hunters. His boat also stuck a 25′ walleye on a ringworm while fishing for bass.
Muskie action was on FIRE on the north end. We stopped in to Cataways for a burger and talked with a guy that had pictures of his last 2 days on the lake. 10 legal ‘skis on Saturday, 3 on Sunday including a very huge and very DEAD 54″ beast that thay paraded around the restaurant for 45 minutes. All caught trolling big plugs.
