Just haven’t seen anyone post here. The bite must still be a little slow. Anyone get out this last weekend? Any luck trolling for the piggies?

Heading back up there this weekend!

We were out on the boot Saturday night. Caught one 17 incher at 10:30 pm and missed a few more. We were bobber fishing on top of the flat.

    Rob,

The bite remains tough during the day hours. The shallow rocks and deep gravel appear to be the best thing going as of late. THe trolling bite is still quite quiet in recent daytime hours. The morning and evening appears the be the best thing going from the launches and the guys setting up on their favorite shallow structure. Look to these areas for most consistent action. Its good to see the walleyes have plenty to eat right now……. but with some persistence the trolling game will pay off for some nice fish as you know!

Good luck to you! Night fishing has been particularily respectable in recent days! Both pulling cranks and slip bobbering has been taking fish!

Thanks for the info Steve. I believe I will only be able to get up there during the morning / day on Sunday. So I will probably be up around The Jug, Boot, and maybe the Center Bar. If nothings there might head to the Gravel Bar. Thanks again!

My post pretty much echos Steve’s….

Tuff bite during the day for walleyes. Got one slot on Friday, a nice fat 19incher. That fish took a spinner/crawler in 21 feet of water on the gravel. Fished the couples tourney on Saturday out of Macs Twin Bay. We did not weigh any fish. Went for that one big bite trolling cranks out near the mud flats. Put 2 more slots in the boat on Sunday corking deep gravel near spider island. So, 3 slots and a handful of keeper size perch for the weekend. Plenty of fish for a dinner this week!

The evening reports are better. If you can put in a full night of fishing, you stand a good chance of getting a 4 fish limit with a few hogs in the mix.

The smallies are going nuts! Cookie cutter 18-20 inchers are smacking mepps spinners, K-Grubs and cranks. Best times have been right in the middle of the afternoon. Rocks, docks, and weed beds are all holding fish. Sight fishing sandy flats for small schools of 3-4 fish is another approach I have been playing with. Just cruising the sand with the bow mount and pitching to these fish when they appear.

Here is a pix of the score board. Gives you an idea of the weights. 6 fish limit with one over 28. The names are hard to read. We were team 60.

Thanks for the Info Jon! Nice Smallie and pics of the Couples Tourney! Sad to hear the bite is slow. They are just putting on the weight for the Fall bite, is the way I will have to look at it.

Plan on pulling cranks on Sunday, looking for Piggies!

Nice pictures of the tournament. Are the printed results somewhere on the Internet?

I was just about to ask who has a red Alumacraft with the FTL and FTR decals on it. Hooks, I say you at the access on Saturday. I was the guy standing there with all my gear waiting for a ride. If I would have seen the stickers earlier, I would have said Hi.

    Hey Bigfife,

Nice to see you, we’ll cross pathes again I’m sure, we fish the same areas alot. I was thinking as I walked by you “Did this guy get stood up?”
    Where did you fish?
The folks in the big warrior and my wife and I launch out of there for this tourney to help each other out as our wives couldn’t back up a trailer to save their souls. My wife keeps telling me she’s going to take that womans boating course out of Crystal Pierz Marine in the spring so she can help out. Our wives really don’t want to learn from us, it might be kinda tense, if ya know what I mean.LOL

Hooks, I’ll keep an eye out for the Alumacraft. I am usually out there in my Dad’s red Crestliner Sportfish. We go out of Hunter’s Point and fish the East side all the time.

Saturday I was on the water with Sliderfishn. He brought me out to some of the smallie spots on that corner of the lake. We ended up boating 15 or so on Sat. mourning. My biggest and his was 18.5 inches. Now that I know some spots and techniques I will be down there a lot more. I was hanging out at the access because Sliderfishn had a party to get home for and my parents were on their way to pick me up. Good thing you guys helped each other load the boats. I watched a woman struggle to back the trailer in right before you got there. Eventually she went to hold the boat and her husband put the trailer in the water. Backing in the trailers is tough, I am glad my dad lets me take the boat end of things.

Just thought I would share on how we did Sunday with 2 lines out. Started out in the Heavy Fog 9am. There was quite a few fish on top of the flat. We trollled the edges Running one line @ around 21′ feet and one around 10′. I was graphing fish @ both depths. We pulled 2 fish down low (21″ and a 24″). Switched to running both low. Did not pick up anything else and started to see less fish on top, so we switched plans and started trying to find a school somewhere in no mans land. Did not run into many schools. Some isolated fish here and there, so we just started pulling cranks where we graphed some fish. Only picked up one more fish the rest of the day (4pm). This 26.5″ came @ about 28′ down in 37’of water. We caught fish on 2 colors a chrome clown type color and a what I will call a “gay pride color” rainbow.

After the fog blew off it was a high sun and very calm . Not great for fishing but a good day to spend on the water. The hound even got to take a swim to cool off and retreive a few. Good thing he goes 75-80 lbs. I was thinking of that Muskie caught up here and the post about a missing dog!

Thanks Steve D. for the information passed on a few weeks ago, and a tutorial that was 2nd to none . I just need to wait until next Summer to use the things I learned and hopefully will have a little better bite, then what I’m experiencing now! If any of you are questioning of using/hiring a guide from here (IDA) ! I would suggest not to question any longer. Go ahead and book a date. I have only had one experience so far, but the knowledge I gained in that one day. It would take me a long time (years) to gain on my own.

I’m looking forward to the Fall bite and fishing with James come October!
