Any guesses for this year. Looks to me like conditions are all ready behind where they where last year at this time. Pool 2 opened up about a week to 10 days later than last year. Rainy river looks like it is going to do the same. Got to start wondering about mille lacs.

A lot can happen in over a month, but I am starting to think we might have a repeat performance of last year……. my guess is anything north of mille lacs has a pretty good chance of being ice covered on opener.
I remain optimistic. I say may 7.

April 2, 2014 at 6:59 am #1401196Where is mille lacs?? Is there a slot on that lake? I heard it also gets netted………
April 2, 2014 at 7:09 am #1401200We went bar hopping the south shore last opener. Pretty messed up seeing all the ice piled up in the bays. IF we remain a week behind there is a good chance our lake will still have some ice on it this year.
Palerider77Posts: 630April 2, 2014 at 7:37 am #1401217Two years in a row of reduced netting due to ice…. I can live with that.
April 2, 2014 at 8:57 am #1401257Originally I was guessing around the 25th of April, but with 6-12″ of snow predicted for Mille Lacs over the next couple days I’d say that will add at least another 2 weeks… Which means my new guess will be May 9th, one day before opener
April 3, 2014 at 4:03 am #1401464May 8th, that gives me Friday before opener to get moved back in to the summer place.
Hatch99Posts: 85April 3, 2014 at 1:35 pm #1401568However – 10 day forecast following the snow looks great. 50’s nearly everyday.
April 9, 2014 at 7:04 am #1402855I was up this past weekend and based on what I saw, I would have to predict September 15th
This morning I looked at the webcams at mnlakewebcams.com hoping for a ray of hope…
Now I am just looking for encouraging words.
April 9, 2014 at 10:43 am #1402912Way early…We still have more than a month to go.
I wouldn’t cancel plans yet. It will be open if we continue to have these warm temps, wind, and/or rain. It will go fast if Mother Nature cooperates for the next month.
fishingforalivin’Posts: 8April 9, 2014 at 11:56 am #1402932Oh there will be an opener. If you look at Accuweather.com you can look at last April and we only got over 50 degrees 4 times or so last year. This April is looking much better and hopefully more rain this year as well. Keep your chin up! It’s going to happen There are you encouraging words!

Thanks for the positivity Suzy
With rain predicted this weekend and the nice warm temps on the 10 day forecast, unless things take a huge turn for the worse, I wouldn’t be suprised to see open water on Mille Lacs by May 1st.

Thanks Will! I usually just read this stuff but had to chime in this time, since things are looking up! Hope to see you soon!
April 9, 2014 at 5:41 pm #1403003I’m going to go with an April 29 prediction… The rest of this month’s forecast looks too good.
April 11, 2014 at 6:05 am #1403442Yep. That forecast is looking a lot better now. Lakes are the metro are starting to loosen up in the last few days.
April 11, 2014 at 2:31 pm #1403613Was out doing some late cleanup today. Drilled one hole and found 28 inches of ice. The top 5 inches was pretty soft! It’s going to be awhile yet! I heard of others finding much more ice up to over 36 inches in places.
April 16, 2014 at 8:14 am #1404511Any snow up there yet Bobber? This prediction has certainly put a damper on my opener plans.
April 16, 2014 at 8:40 am #1404517snowing like crazy right now….wind is blowing making it had to tell how much has falling. Snow day today…for me!
April 16, 2014 at 1:15 pm #1404635bob,
you get the day off and it’s Marilyn’s first day back at the park. I come home Thursday morning and go back to work may 4th….that’s a good day, I pick may 4thApril 28, 2014 at 7:17 am #1406662Anybody care to make updated predictions?
I am getting a dock delivered on the 8th. Will the ice be out or not?
April 28, 2014 at 7:24 am #1406663If they are getting this rain it will be out especially if it starts to blow.
April 28, 2014 at 5:02 pm #1406829I am seeing a good amount of open water on some of the webcams. I am thinking we are just a handful of days away.
carmikePosts: 214April 29, 2014 at 11:17 pm #1407179Yeah, it looks like the forecast for next week is in the 60’s. Some sun paired with wind should beat it up pretty good. Toss in some rain Monday (maybe), and I’m guessing we’ll be ice free. Just a guess, though. I thought the Wild would beat the Avs in six games, so what do I know?
May 3, 2014 at 9:10 am #1408169Up at the pond now. I think its safe to say 3/4 of the lake is still covered. A LOT of ice still out there….it’s not stopping the netting activity
