Mille Lacs Opener

With all the bad press about the new regulations and from what I saw of the low boat traffic last year. i am thinking this year will be a good year to get out there on the actual opener. my family has adopted midweek after opener or the 2nd weekend as Our Opener because we just don’t have any reason to play the Opener Game. We love to fish Mille Lacs but don’t really care if we get a fish fry everytime we fish. therefore I am thinking this will be a double secret opener on Mille Lacs.

What do you guys predict for Opener traffic on ML?

It will be on foot, ice won’t be off by then.

Ya I guess i should have put in that disclaimer. Only if there is open water.

I predict lower than normal traffic on opener but still busy

I also predict that the night ban will start immediately so most likely no night fishing on opening weekend.

I am also willing to put $$ on the ice being gone from Mille Lacs before opener. Any takers?

Lots of weak white ice this year. Crazy to see shacks sink on 28″ of ice this year. Would think it will go in a hurry once it starts.

Ice don’t have to go far. It was a great opener out there last year. I hope there is ice again. Just work the edge of the ice pack. Huge plus, less crowd n no knottheads at the landing.

I am saying ice will be off.

I am also saying bite may be tough with the amount of forage available via the perch hatch. Who knows.

Either way we will be out there

On Deadliest Catch they always found more crab by the ice pack. Bet walleye fishing is the same.

Lake of the woods and rainy river fishing the edge of the ice is very common practice.
