Twenty plus years ago, we were taking a ride around Mille Lacs and happened upon the Red Door Resort. Fred stopped for a pop and when he returned to the car a few minutes later he told me “we’re gonna buy this place”. I thought he was crazy, but he definitely proved me wrong!
When we purchased it, there was the barn which contained a restaurant & bar and about a half dozen RV’s down by the lake. The grounds were a bit grown over but it was such a peaceful, beautiful piece of land. We immediately had a vision of what we wanted The Red Door Resort to be.
It took us all of those twenty plus years to achieve our goals, but we did. We built, in our opinion, the nicest family resort on the lake. We knew what we expected when we traveled and we knew we were just like the people we wanted to accommodate. Little by little, with so much help from our familes, (which without, we never would have made it) we made changes, some small and some very large. We finally realized the resort we had envisioned so long ago!
We’ve met so many wonderful people over the years. We’ve employed and worked with so many great people, all of whom helped us see our dream come true. We have so many amazing memories!
Our boys were just babies when we moved up here. Sam has recently graduated college and will enter law school this nex year and Danny will graduate from law enforcement this spring. Just in the past few months we began to think maybe it was time for us to move on too. We were introduced to the Kulifaj family, Steve, Lynn and their four children. They, too, were looking for a change and wanted to have a resort. It seemed to be a perfect fit. We’ve always tried to run The Red Door with the highest of standards. We’ve always taken such pride in the well kept grounds and clean cabins & motel rooms. Most importantly, we’ve always tried to offer the best we could at really affordable prices. A resort that has something for the whole family, that everyone can afford! After working with Steve, Lynn and family for the past couple weeks, we feel confident they will continue to operate The Red Door with the same high standards. Yes, they have their own dream so there will most likely be changes, but change can be good!
We will be working closely with them over the next year. We will keep our home, just next door, and we always welcome guests!
We’d like to thank everyone; our family members, employees, friends, customers, guests, vendors, etc. for their support over the past several years. We wouldn’t have been able to do what we did, without that support. We can only hope you continue to support the new owners. After all, in our opinion, The Red Door is still the nicest family resort on Lake Mille Lacs.
