The other evening a top MN DNR official mentioned the slow fishing on Mille Lacs this winter was because of the weather! They just don’t get it..
    can someone please help them,

About a year ago an Aitkin radio station had the local DNR biologist on talking about the problem’s with mille lacs, he stated everything from global warming, late ice, zebra mussels, lack of batfish, etc, etc, etc, but not once mentioned the netting of vulnerable fish during spawn….I was so upset over that one hour interview.

Are you saying the weather hasn’t played a role in the slow fishing on mille lacs. Have you been outside this year or have you tried to travel on mille lacs.

Snow and ice conditions are definitely aggrivating the issue…But even the guys sledding out to the flats are having moderate success. It’s more than just weather, but the weather sure isn’t helping either.

I think what Bob and many of us agree on is the continued denial by the DNR there is a problem with tribal netting. They are not addressing the real causes for the lowest number of fish in the lake going back 40 years. This crash started exactly the same year the tribes began netting. It purely insulting to suggest the weather is the cause.

What flats are putting out fish? None out of the north end. My permanent has been out there, I have fished outside of it many times hopping around. I got more fish off the first sand break, and by more I mean a couple. It’s slow….. We’ve been on the North End flats for three weeks now (two shacks) and 1 walleye, no perch, three tulibees. Never thought I’d say this, but fishing in the metro is better than Mille Lacs right now. Worst year in 7 years that we have been out of the North End. 60,000 pound qouto this year for a reason.
