Fishing with Ted…… Part 2

The surprise catch of the day was this muskie of about 40″. We didn’t weigh it…. we were supposed to be determined walleye guys putting a game plan together for the next day but because this was my biggest muskie to date, Ted let me boat it for a couple of pics for the scrapbook! I’ve always wanted to lock into one of Mille Lac’s predatory kings so in spite of being “accidental”, it was a special experience for me!

The fish is a little beat up but I’m inclined to believe it’s related to the spawning of the fish. I’ve seen prop encountered fish before and these wounds looked different and none were across the back. All on the sides, and both sides at that. Very peculiar and it takes away from the beauty of the fish, but she swam off unharmed and under her own power.

Thanks again for the great day Ted!

Yes sir! Pulling boards we were! We were out near 9 mile over the mud pulling a Deep Reef Runner on each line. I don’t remember which color caught the fish though….. I didn’t care! LOL! I just wanted that bugger in the boat!

It was an interesting fish – the board just got heavy and I pulled on it and handed it to Ken and said there’s something on it – whola! Second muskie in my boat in two years (last one was 51.5″) and they still make the boat smell!

Certainly was a beat up fish but the interesting thing was 220′ back on a Reef Runner over 35′ – that bait was running within’ 3′ of the bottom, goes to show you it’s hard to say what you will find out there. I did catch a 3#+ sucker almost over the same mark the next day in the tournament so she may have been keying on them and thats what we might have been seeing on the depth finder in that area…

who knows, that’s why it’s called fishing.

Thanks for a fun day Ken and let’s do it again sometime?
