Summer resort on Mille Lacs

My family is looking for a new resort for our summer family trips. I was thinking Mille Lacs would be a good spot since it is central for those from Rochester as well as those of us up north.

I am looking for things I remember from my childhood. A cabin by the lake. Somewhere the kids can swim right near the cabin. The adults can relax in a kid free environmentm They are close enough to play and be safe yet not under the adults feet.

Fish is good for the adults and the older kids. Maybe some water skiing and tubing. A dock close by for the boats.

No waterparks, 5 star restaurants, etc etc etc. Pretty much more Red Doorish and not Izatyish.

There will be six adults, four kids ranging from 2 years old to 10 years old.

Family vacation. I have to say Appeldoorn’s. I had to beg and plead with the fw to vacation at Mille lacs. But she didn’t think anything was kid friendly enough. Finally talked her into it got some recommendations from other guys with my problem. Now I think it’s her favorite spot for a family fishing vacation. And we’ve been to places like treeland on the Chip. Huddles and northland on leech and four seasons on Winnie. Our kids are young 5&3. No pool but the beach is fantastic. Just my .02

Appledoorns is real nice. Plus they have a couple huge reunion houses in case the whole family wanted to stay in one cabin. Nice beach and a playground for the kids, too

Appledorns looks a little to “upscale” for what I was thinking. I may have to swing in and check it out some day on my way by.

Red Door has no cabins on the water from what I remember when I’ve stayed there. Otherwise I really liked Red Door.

As others have said Red Door on the North and Appeldorn’s on the South are both awesome family resorts… My vote however would be Fisher’s. They pride themselves on being a resort for the whole family and IMO have the nicest harbor on the lake with more lakeshore than just about any other resort on the lake. I’ve been reccomending people to go there for years and never had anyone who wasn’t happy with their choice.

I don’tthink you can go wrong with any of the three suggested here! I have stayed at the Red Door in the motel for fishing and did no walk around the grounds until my last stay and was plesantly surprised. I have been to Appledoors for Ice fishing and am booked for 12/30 this year and found that they are great! I have been to Fishers but not have stayed there but they seem very nice and acomodating also. So with that said, shake the dice and go with your gut based on the feedback from others here. They all have very good suggestions!

Hunter’s Point has cabins on the lake with a sandy beach.
